Can Two MJ's share one library?
« on: March 15, 2002, 04:48:07 pm »

I have two machines on my lan that need to share a single library - can both machines access the library database simultaneously?

I think you would end up with a Share Violation, and possibly a messed up data base

You can do this but the potential to mess up the database is high.
Simple solution - set one machine to "Party Mode" (under View).
This will prevent that machine from modifying the library.

My solution is to copy the database onto the kitchen computer.  To keep it up to date with the main machine, I just copy the original database every once in a while.  The party mode suggestion is probably best, though.  That way you always have the most up-to-date library in one place at all times; if you are tempted to edit a few properties on the wrong library, it won't let you, so you are safe.
