Hi all,

Brand new owner and loving this product so far.  I have already know the difference between bitstream and letting the PC decode the DTS signal etc.  My question is, I have all DSP turned off but when I play a Blu Ray (avatar) the audio path says:

INPUT:  48KHZ 16bit 2ch from source format DTS

CHANGES: No changes are being made

OUTPUT:  48KHZ 16bit 2ch using WASAPI (bitstreaming)

My question is, why does it say 2ch, when in fact it's 5.1 and I can clearly hear and see it's doing 5.1 on my Meridian 861?  I do not have HDMI on my unit so not interested in sending already decoded (unbitstreamed) audio to the 861, I just would like to know if this is normal behavior to say 2ch when in fact it's 5.1?

Welcome.

To the computer, it is 2 channel audio.  This is because the DTS bits are packed into something that looks like 2 channel PCM (but would sound like noise if you played it as PCM).

If you decode instead of bitstream, it will report the expected number of PCM channels.

Is 3D playback something that will become available?  I noticed my Avatar 3D won't playback in 3D.

Unfortunately not soon.  There are a bunch of icky technical limitations.

However, side-by-side playback should work.  That's how I watched Avatar 3d in MC on my projector -- although it was the first and basically only time I used the 3d.

It's really not that big of deal.  I can watch 3D using my Blu Ray player or another app for this, since there really isn't that many of them anyway.

One more question that I just can't seem to get resolved on my DTS issue, but dealing with music.

I have my favorite CD ever that is encoded with 5.1 DTS.  However, when I play it I only get white noise no matter what I do.  Keep in mind that I do not have the option to use the decoders in JRiver at the moment.  Because my processor only takes SPDIF inputs (single ended) and it does not work with multi-channel PCM.  Therefore, it must do the decoding.

So with that in mind, how do I get my DTS 5.1 CD, to bitstream to my processor without any white noise?

Thanks for the link.  I tried all those things and still white noise.

The one thing I never seen in that thread was, what he did to the original files?  Meaning, what format are they in on his machine?  I read many threads saying to rip them as WAV files which I did.  Perhaps this is just not the right way to do it?  I wonder if it can read it from an iso file?

I have been trying for two days to figure this out.  Hopefully I can get this resolved, this is about the only remaining problem I have at this point!

Additionally, when I changed the seting in file types, for DTS Audio to Video Filters as that thread said, it completely stopped my ability to bitstream my movies in DTS.  So I had to undo that setting.
