Copy files on a client?
« on: September 05, 2013, 05:58:27 am »

Hi again, is it possible to copy files on a client (from Library Server)?

I would like to copy files to usb drive for my car radio,
renaming them using Counter() CustomData(#) to preserve my playlist order.
I right clicked on selected files on playlist, then clicked
'Rename, Move & Copy Files' then set Path, Rule and clicked 'ok'
(see attached image) and.... nothing happened - no error message
and no files were copied.

ps. there is also bug maybe with Counter() because it's increasing while moving mouse cursor over preview window.

Thanks! Now I see CustomData(#) (as a replacement for not existing [Seq] tag) is much better than Counter() for this purpose, but still no files are copied.  :(

It appears that MC's Rename, Move & Copy tool doesn't support client copies.

You can drag-n-drop files from the client.  Map the remote drive to a local drive such that the file paths (of the [Filename] field) are the same, and enable the Client Options in Media Network to allow using Local files when available.

I know I can drag&drop, but it breaks file order of my playlist... I've already got remote drive correctly mapped. I've imported all the music files to the Client's Main Library and checked that option "play local file if one that matches...", switched back to remote library of my htpc and restarted JRiver. Unfortunately move&copy at "Original" field still showing m01p:// instead of X:\ and copying don't work, maybe I've done something wrong I don't know, however I found another solution: save a playlist -> switch to Main Library -> load playlist -> move & copy  :)

BTW it's great that there are functions like these: If(Compare(CustomData(#),<,10),0,)  ;D

This would be super-handy.

In fact, I'd kill for the Rename, Move, and Copy tool to be fully functional from the Client-side (able to move stuff on the server, initiated from a client).  Okay, maybe not Kill, but it is something that makes it challenging to use MC18 at the office the way we are for managing content on our streaming servers (where the final path counts).

I should start a "Things I'd Like for Rename, Move, and Copy" Thread, actually... There's a few more (reasonably minor, at least compared to that request above) things I'd love in there...
