Newsletter (Announcing Linux Version)
« on: September 25, 2013, 07:46:30 pm »

Good Day,
JRiver Has a New Version for Mac
We've just released the next edition of JRiver Media Center for Mac.  To purchase, start by downloading MC19.  More here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=36.0

And a New Version for Linux is Coming
In October JRiver will release the First Look (working, but still rough) version of JRiver Media Center for Linux.

Until then, you can purchase a half price license for $24.98.

Purchase: http://www.jriver.com/linux.html
Discussion: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=35.0

As Well as Many Improvements for Windows
MC19 is stable and recommended for daily use.  Upgrade information is here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC19

If you purchased MC18 for Windows after July 1, 2013, you have an MC19 license that works with both versions.  You can just download and install MC19.

Just one example of the new features -- MC19 stops the loudness war -- the unfortunate trend of modern music crushing dynamics and sound quality just to sound louder.  With MC19's industry leading volume and dynamic range analysis (R128 and DR), you can see how your music was mastered.  You can also apply Volume Leveling so that songs that try to win the loudness war don't sound louder.

Thank You
We appreciate your support of JRiver and our development work.  We have many friends throughout the world who recommend JRiver.  Thank you!

Your support has made it possible for JRiver to hire an outstanding new developer, Hendrik Leppkes, the developer of the LAV filters.  We look forward to working with Hendrik to bring you the highest quality video experience available.

Best regards,

JRiver

You're the first purchaser.

I want to make a joke about you being the first purchaser ever of any desktop Linux program for home use, but I promised to keep a lid on my Linux jokes :P

Anyway, thanks for your support!

Lets get these two questions out of the way and up front:

How long will the License be good for?

Which Distro is recommended / required?

All of MC19, which should be a little less than a year.

It's a 32-bit x86 Debian program for now.  We'll expand this with time.  It might run on other flavors of Linux already, but we haven't tried.

Here's my $ for the support.  Not sure I will go Linux as I'm not sure how to play BR movies on it (though that is probably beyond MC19-L anyway).  However, I think the more cross platform you get the more you will learn the best way to process audio and video so therefore I'm in for support.

Since it is open source, can you simply offer the Debian that is known to work with MC19-Linux, as a download on the JRiver site ?   Might make things simpler, and also avoid problems from users having slightly different distributions...

PS   Can I assume that you are considering Android ?
