Hi,

I actually run JRiver in my working room on a PC (Core(TM)2 6600 2.4GHz 65 W TDP, 6 GB RAM, Nvidia GTS 8800 - JRMark of 1667, Passmark 1543).

I want to buy a HTPC for my living room. The i34130T (35W TDP), 4 Threads, Passmark 4205  seems attractive because of its lower TDP compared to the i54670T, 4 Threads, Passmark 6351.

So is i34130T sufficient to watch blu-ray in HD resolution with madVR as renderer?

Any Ideas?

one JRiver user had an intel nuc with Core i3-3217U, 1.8GHz, 2 cores / 4 threads and to my understanding Red October HQ works well. He had a Score of 2543 in the image benchmark compared to my Core(TM)2 6600 PC of 1503.

On my current PC for example playing Shakira Live in Paris has 90 - 100% CPU utilisation with Red October HQ and not running smothly any more.

If you want your HDPC to play full BD quality video, I suggest:

- Min. an i5 or a Phenom II, both X4 CPU
- a reasonably powerful video card with H.264 decode assist, but no need for those designed for big games
- 64 bit Windows

I have a i3-4340 it is fine for 1080p24 BD playback with ROHQ (with lanczos 3 tap chroma upscaling). The madvr stats suggest it has plenty of headroom as the rendering times are way inside the budget & gpu-z says it is not cranking up the clocks too much (gpu clocks rest at about 600MHz during playback). It cannot cope with 1080i30 BD and I found it can be a bit choppy with DVD playback depending on settings.

By the looks of it, the 4130 can boost up to the same rate as the 4340 but it's resting clock is lower. This + the limited TDP suggests you could hit trouble depending on the thermal situation in situ. The 4670T looks v similar to the 4340 (more hardware threads, slightly lower cpu clockspeed, bit lower TDP) so it seems reasonable to be quite confident the 4670T will do the job as long as you are 1080p24 only.

Interlaced content is the toughest, which is why your Shakira BD has issues.  Eg I found that 1080/60i content at madVR's top setting (Jinc3+AR) is just too much for a 550ti but fine on a 600.  With IGP you are going to need to scale down settings to get it to run consistantly over a wide range of media type.  The CPU is less important, as madVR uses the GPU for processing.

There is a deinterlace setting under MadVR trade performace for quality screen (cant remember the name of the option), but it will speed up rendering if you can live with slight flicker of interlaced content.
