Hi, I need to move my library to a different folder.

How would I do this without losing all my settings??

How about using the "Rename, Copy, & Move Files" function in the Library Tools menu. You can "lasso" all your files (or hold Ctrl key while clicking on each one) and then move them. I do this all the time for those TV Shows recorded on a different HD to move them to my TV Shows RAID drive/location.

EDIT: I reread your question and want to be sure that you are only moving the video, audio, images - (the "media") and not the MC settings too. The settings (like Themes, Views, etc.) are not stored with the library media files. But do a complete backup first - just in case.

As CountryBumkin said. You can also use the find and replace function within Rename, Copy & Move Files.
I usually choose the update function and then move the files manually in Windows. This works better for me since sometimes the folders also contain files that MC doesn't know about, but I want to keep together with my media, e.g. additional cover art scans, inlays etc.

One way to do it.

File> Library> Backup library

Choose the new location

Then:
File> Library> Restore library
(From the new location you just saved to)

Make sure you choose to restore settings too. Thumbnails may need to be rebuilt (automatically).

You should also go into:
Options>File Location> Program Files

And change where the automatic backups are made/kept if there's a reason you need to do that too.

Did you check to see if you'd created a library in the new location? If so, and there was on, did you restore it? If so, the library in the old location isn't necessary any more. You can delete it. But please be sure everything is working properly before you do. Might be safer to just move it to a holding folder for now.

Let's go through this carefully and logically. If you did a back up in the new location, and then restored FROM THE NEW LOCATION, there must have been a backup created at the new location. Otherwise there would be no new library to restore at the new location.
Therefore, you either:

Did not follow the steps properly - sorry if anything was unclear.
Did not recognise the new library file (it's a zip file, I believe).

To make things easier, when you make the back-up library, you can name it something distinctive, e.g. "maid's brand new library - here I am"

If this is the case, the create a new Library in the new location.  Then, load that library using Library Manager.  Finally, Restore the old library which will replace the empty contents of this new library that of the old library.

Perhaps I'm confused, but would this yield a different result from what I'm suggesting? It may well do - I just thought that the library files are the zip files.

I am more confused.

I want the library and all the tags to my movies in a different folder.

If I create a new library will this not re import all my files losing all the settings.

Or do I create another library then restore a backup???

Clone the library in the folder you want then use the backup created with all the settings.
