Trying to setup the films and tv programs, apologies if this is obviously found somewhere. A pointer to a thread explaining this would be great.

I installed then it ran auto import and I didn't realise. I deleted everything from the library setup the folder I wanted to auto import and left it at that. It didn't auto import most, so I dragged them over from windows explorer, and one by one updated the film info so it comes up with the picture and info.

Now it has put alot of the films in the shows folder and I can't seem to work out how to move/tag them so they appear as films. They won't drag over which seemed like the most obvious way.

Then the shows are each listed by episode, some obviously have a huge list. Is there anyway to get them to come up with just the show and you click on the show to view which episode you want to see?

1) Change the Media Sub Type tag from TV Show to Movie.  You can prevent this from happening in the future by saving Movies and TV Shows in separate folders, and then setting up a rule in Auto Import to auto-tag the Media Sub Type based on the folder.  Here is a basic example:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81807.0

2) There are several ways to set up your views.  In Standard View, I have a TV Shows view set up using Panes.  I have Series, Season, Genre, and Year as my categories.  That way I can just use the top left pane to pick out the Series, then I can even whittle it down to Season with the next pane.  I also have it Grouped By Series and Sorted Inside Groups By Season -> Episode so that it displays nicely on the bottom.

Thanks for the tips. I managed to find the media sub type option, but am I assuming that once it has imported it will stay in the folder it was put in first time round?

EG twelve monkeys is in shows, I've changed the sub type tag, re run the auto import...

Baffles me why I can't just right click and edit tag info, or  just drag it across?

Yes, MC will not move files unless you tell it to.  If you do want to move the file, you can use Right Click -> Library Tools -> Rename, Move, & Copy Files.  More info here:  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Moving_Files

You can right click and edit tag info.  In a category view, just make sure Media Sub Type is a column showing (right click on the header and check it, if it is not).  Then right click on the tag (or several selected to do more than one at once) -> Rename. 

You can also just right click a file (or files) -> Library Tools -> Find and Replace -> Click: Check None ->  Check: Media Sub Type.  Find: TV Show. Replace: Movie.

Another easy way to change several tags at once is to Enable Pane Tagging in a Pane View.  Add Media Sub Type to one of the Categories panes (right click on the header of any pane -> Customize View -> Add -> Sect Field: Media Sub Type).  Then select the files you wish to tag down below, and check the new tag in the Media Sub Type pane.  You will get a pop up explaining Pane Tagging, click Enable Pane Tagging Now.  You now just batch retagged all the selected files for a new Media Sub Type.  More info here:  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tagging_Mode
