WDTV Won't Play Any MKVs (but plays everything else) [Solved]
« on: January 02, 2014, 01:03:36 pm »

MC World,

A little help please.

I bought a WDTV Live and got "Media Type Unsupported" error when trying to play ANY of my MKV files.

I did something to make it work but I cannot for the life of me remember how.

My best friend, also a MC user, bought one over the holidays and is having the same problem.  He has all the same files I have so it cant be a codec issue.  They play on mine just fine, both via the WDTV GUI and via JRemote.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!
Patrick

Are you sure you are not doing any conversion/transcoding on the MC server?

Make sure you don't have the "WMC Compatible" or "Mimetype override" options checked in the "Advanced" DLNA server settings.

, both via the WDTV GUI and via JRemote.

How do you have the WDTV GUI setup to access your library? MC DNLA server doesn't work for me.

Thanks

Thanks cncb.  I will try right away.

Stelvio, I use the "Media Server" and choose MC.

MC 19.0.100
WD TV Live SMP with Firmware 2.01.86
Ethernet connection via Cat 5e

No issues with MKVs.  Most common usage is using the WD unit as a player (ie pulling content).  Most MKVs created using MakeMKV.  A few were remuxed via mkvmerge GUI.

DLNA Media Server Settings
Video
 - Original
Advanced
 - DLNA checked
 - DLNA Extra checked

Ensure you are selecting the MKV from the Videos section (Videos then Video).  Video also appears under Music & from memory does not work

Please post the WD version and firmware details and perhaps some Media Info detail of one of the files

regards,

Steve

SOLVED!!!!!

Thanks for the help everyone.  I always forget where the Server settings are buried.  I always confuse them the "Library Server" settings which were set to "Original".  The server settings though were "convert when necessary" to some NTSC codec.

All is well.  Everything working as it should.

Thanks again!
