We're talking about Linux, but it is a very long road.

Just curious,
Anyone tried running MJ 7 or 8 under Linux/Wine ??

For the non linuxians : Wine is a Windows Emulator. It will allow (when fully
developed) to run a Windows program (an exe file) under Linux.

They said that not any software will work on it.Look to me as they plan to target offices more than home user.Beside this you will have to pay $100 to have a try. With BeOS you had a monster free download to try the os.First tkink my 56kps was not working with BeOS ,so i have very little to say about it
Last point i do not trust the boss at Line/Wine.The one who founded mp3.com.And will never pay $100.Only if i see thousand and thousand of positive revues

Michael Roberts, founder (and hype-artist) of MP3.com is now touting Lindows.  Is this the publisher of Wine?  I didn't think it was.

JimH - No. Lindows is an attempt (maybe more hype will be generated than code, who knows) to create an O/S that will run both Linux apps and Windows apps.

No Michael Roberts he's not the publisher of Wine. Wine is an opensource effort to try and build a Windows API under Linux. This effort has started a while back.
It has slowly progressed from beeing able to run winmine in 1994 to some
solid applications now (Word, Corel Draw...).
As the supporter of the project like to say, "Wine is getting better with age"

Lindows, AFAIK, is trying to package a linux distro   wine in a commercial product.

For those interested here are some links on today's wine compatible applications :

my previous post missed a plus sign.
I meant : Lindows tries to package a linux distibution plus Wine in a commercial product.

Gatorbit - I agree with you : there's a lot of hype surrounding lindows. I think
this is not fair for the folks who really put a lot of effort in the development
of Wine. This is not a piece of cake !

There is a commercial product named VMWARE, that simulates the entrire BIOS on a Linux or NT machine. So, you simulate the computer hardware, which allows you  to install any other operating system on this virtual computer. It really works great, but for doing audio, a fast cpu is required.
I never heard about a wine, thats running stable. If anyone has, please let me know.

Good luck, the Linux community is notorious for not wanting or willing to pay for software.
