Cannot import mp3s
« on: February 23, 2002, 07:46:46 pm »

Just MJ7.2.280, first time user. Ripped a bunch of CDs into a folder in mp3 format. I am unable to import them so that I can burn them. The import dialog did manage to import two leftover wav files in the temp directory, just not all the mp3s. Anyone seen this? Am I missing something simple?

thanks

strange. you shouldn't have to "import" them after ripping--the media library should have been updated to reflect the new files. can you think of any further details that could point us in the right direction.

I can't think of any other details, other than after ripping the mp3s my media library is completely empty. When I do the import, MJ sees all of the mp3s, but does not import them and gives no reason in the details dialog as to why not. There are no unusual file names, other than ones with spaces and the path is not all that long as they are all under D:\mp3s\\. I tried moving some to a new folder without any luck, even into C:\. Does not work on either NTFS (DNext Page or DOS (CNext Page volumes.

Other system details:
Oddly, I do not have a sound card installed. I have had EZCD Creator 4 installed previously but is now uninstalled and currently have ClickNBurn pro installed. System is Win2K with no service packs. mp3 files are registered to MJ. That is about all I can think of.

thanks,

Can you expand Media Library?  Click on the |PLS|.

Check settings/options/file associations to make sure mp3 is checked.

Describe how you ripped them and what encoder was used to encode to MP3.

Check the FAQ here on ripping.

Check settings/options/file associations to make sure mp3 is checked. - It is.
Describe how you ripped them and what encoder was used to encode to MP3.
select the CD, click tools/Copy(rip) CD.

Used LAME encoder 320KB, with settings of high quality, rip and encode simutaneously, and delete temp files.

Check the FAQ here on ripping. - ripped per the faq.

I am able to play these on my other systems. there does not appear to be any problem with the ripping.

thanks,

Is the Lame encoder our plugin for version 7?  Or the external Lame program?

I imported it

I:\00 - Downloaded\16 - One Step At A Time.mp3

There must be something wrong with your data files.

maybe if you Back Up Your RRG file (Registration file) a few times

then uninstall MJ

make sure your program files \j river is deleted

then reboot

reinstall MJ

Fixed after uninstall/reinstall. Now I can see if MJ will work for me or not! Thanks to all for all the suggestions.

Glad you got it working, must have been a bad install.

I have 80,000|PLS| mp3 files and I think it is the best I have seen to date

Even if Matt is trying to Cram Id3v2 down my thought

ID3v2 is palatable once you get used to it; be thankful its not mountain oysters.
