Stuttering and volume
« on: March 29, 2014, 06:16:54 pm »

I get a lot of stuttering during playback, and somewhat frequently the volume shoots up to full for no reason I can figure out. -jim

More details might help.  What kind of files, what device are you playing to, are the files local or on a LAN, etc.

Antivirus programs can cause strange problems.

The volume problem may be driver related.  Try setting audio to DirectShow.  The wiki has topics on audio setup.

Check Tools > Options > Audio > Device Settings if you are using WASAPI for output. There is a setting which maximizes the device volume on playback.

You should also check Tools > Options > Startup as "optimize volume for best sound quality" and "set volume to 100%" may be enabled.

I have mostly FLAC files on a local drive, ASUS XONAR Essence XT sound card, settings are ASIO.  Alot of my files are 24/192000 from HDtracks. -jim

Try Direct Sound as your audio output.

ASIO drivers come from the device manufacturer.  They don't always work.

Do an Internet search for ASUS + Unified Driver.
