Convolution Sample Rate Switching
« on: April 05, 2014, 05:20:20 pm »

I’m using the native convolution function and am struggling to figure out how to get JRiver (V19 for Windows) to automatically switch between different filters used for different sampling rates. My filters are contained in two files Lounge2.0_48.txt and Lounge2.0_441.txt that are in the same folder with EQ2.0_48 as the target file. The check-box “automatically switch filter based on input format” is selected. On playing a 44.1kHz file the “convolution” heading shows as “enabled and processing 44.1kHz 64bit 2-channel” but the “status box” shows that the filter is Lounge2.0_48. Is it correct to assume that this is working with the 44.1 filters despite the 28 filters being shown? Or is there something else that I need to configure / set-up?

Any feedback, folks, as to how one knows if convolution sample rate switching is working (see below)?

The status box only shows the original filter you loaded. It looks like you are having the filter switched automatically.

You can also create just a filter at the same sample rate as your measurement. JRiver will automatically resample it for anything other than your measurement sample rate. Unless you took separate measurements at 44.1 and 48 kHz, your convolution software, such as Audiolense, is just resampling the filter, too.

Try pointing it to the base filter file, eg: Lounge2.0_441.txt. You should see the name of the filter file change in the status box when playing 48k material.

Is it supposed to switch to higher rates than 192000?

I can get it to auto-switch up to 192k & added 2 x additional filter wav files and cfg files for 352.8k and 384k, but it auto-switches back to the base rate (in this case 44100) when upsampling to 352.8k. Upsampling to 176.4k will select the 176400 filter.

We're not checking for that high of a rate, but we could.  What are the files named?

The files are named:

Mus2.0_441.cfg
Mus2.0_48.cfg
Mus2.0_882.cfg
Mus2.0_96.cfg
Mus2.0_176.cfg
Mus2.0_192.cfg
Mus2.0_352.cfg
Mus2.0_384.cfg

The contents of the 2 new cfg files (based on the lower rate cfg's)
Code: [Select]
352800 2 2 0
0 0
0 0
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\DRC\LMus_352.wav
0
0.0
0.0
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\DRC\RMus_352.wav
0
1.0
1.0

384000 2 2 0
0 0
0 0
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\DRC\LMus_384.wav
0
0.0
0.0
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\DRC\RMus_384.wav
0
1.0
1.0

I have loaded the respective wav files into Audacity to verify the correct sample rate.
The path in the Convolution setup points to C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\DRC\Mus2.0_441.cfg

+ convolution does not work correctly at 384k - output is barely audible. Switching back to 352.8k works (in both cases 44.1k filters auto-selected).

Next build:
NEW: Audio convolution loads 352 and 384 sample rate configurations files.

Updated to .141 & 356.8k & 384k convolution is working well   ;D

Setup separarate zones with ZoneSwitch for 44.1k 16 bit->DSD128 & hires up sample to 356.8k/384k. All works on a JRMark of 2200 (only just).
