SACD ISO playback resources vs DSF/DFF playback resources
« on: June 01, 2014, 08:40:18 am »

Over on CA in my huge SACD ripping thread have been talking about "why extract at all" now that JRiver not only plays ISOs directly but also tags and saves tag edits (sidecar).

Question: theoretically (yes, we will ultimately test with out ears) does JRiver do more, less or same processing on ISO playback as it does on DSF or DFF extracted tracks?  I would assume more, especially encountering DST, etc.  But I am guessing.

It will do the same processing.

DST is the wildcard, and if either format uses it the load will be heavier.

Matt,
Welcome f-ing back!!   ;D  I know we said that earlier, but just having you reply normally, with no fanfare, wow, this is so wonderful.

Yes, the extracted DSF has already had DST decompressed, and if the ISO has DST work for the stereo "layer" then I would guess it's a load... thanks.

JRiver does not save tags for SACD ISO Files as Sidecars.  I wish it did.
