Drop outs while using 2xDSD upsampling with Mytek 192 DSD
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:55:28 pm »

Hello,

Currently experimenting the 2xDSD upsampling option with Mytek 192 DSD trough USB and while having good results I'm experiencing drop outs 3/4 times by track.
Mac mini i7 late 2013 with 16Go Mavericks and my NAS has 36 Mo/sec band width.
I've tried unchecking integer mode, pushing prebuffering to 20 secs, with and without silence, gapless or not, rebooting everything etc., nothing helps.

Please suggest options to configure.
Thanks

It's an expensive CPU feature.

You could increase buffering in Options > Audio, but it's possible it's just too much.

I have a macbook air which is way more underpowered than your machine and I'm not getting any dropout.
Are you feeding data via wi-fi?
Try switching wi fi channels, ensure that you are using a high-bandwidth wi-fi and if it still does not work try using a local USB disk attached to the mac.

It's working fine on a similar Mac Mini here as well.  Does playback of local files work?

Thank you,

The Mac mini it's the most powerful available, Monitoring the CPU charge shows 7% total with 3 to 4 % dedicated to JRiver when 2xDSD is activated.
The files are read over Gigabit Ethernet and I don't see how it could be related to the network as when unchecking the 2xDSD option there are no drop outs.

Do you have the latest driver and firmware for the Mytek?  I believe they have improvements with 2xDSD.

Hello,

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, yes most recent drivers installed everywhere.
Today I've experimented further and changed the the server protocol on Mac Mini from SMB to AFP. This improved the drop out experience. What a piece of junk Mavericks!
Pushed also the pre buffering to 10 s.
Checked the USB port used by Mytek is not shared by other devices.
Still hearing some drop outs.
What a bad experience spending K$ on computer music and getting frustration in return!
Guess is the way of live of early adopters, or is it masochism?
Need to go back to vinyl for some time to recover...guaranteed drop outs free!

Have you tried experimenting with play from memory setting on MC?

Did you try increasing buffering in Options > Audio > Device settings...?
