Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) is taking place in Denver, CO from October 10-12. From the website:

What is RMAF?

The 11th Annual Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) is the largest consumer audio and home entertainment show in the United States. Simply put: “mega stereo systems!” Denver’s own audio wonderland now features over 170 exhibit spaces representing more than 400 hundred companies from North and South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

CanJam @ RMAF is a show-within-a-show, organized by Head-Fi.org, it features the latest and greatest in headphone technology, which with 47% growth in 2013, is the fastest growing segment of the audio industry.

Attendees are encouraged to go from room-to-room, interact with salespeople and engineers, have a seat and casually listen. Many bring their own iPods, discs or vinyl records, as most exhibitors are happy to play one or two favorite songs as a demonstration of sound quality. A variety of equipment is demonstrated, ranging from affordable audio systems to ultra-expensive high-end gear.

RMAF also features live entertainment, informative seminars, equipment show specials, and prize drawings throughout the weekend.

Matt has participated in panel discussion there in previous years. This year, JRiver will have its own room in which playback will be exclusively from JRiver computers. I've offered to help with organizing and running the room. The room is being shared with JTR Speakers. JRiver Media Center and JTR Speakers were both features of the May and June Home Theater of the Month at AVSForum.com.

Is anyone interested in a JRiver get-together on Friday or Saturday evening?

JTR Speakers is bringing a pair of their Noesis 215RT speakers. I had a chance to listen to the first pair in Sacramento, CA back in March. Here are three of the speakers with a JRiver user that I met in Sacramento.



Other than the speakers, I'll be taking all my own gear. So far I have the following:

Amps: 3 Digital Amp Company Cherry Monoblocks and 1 Cherry Jr. stereo amp for a total of 5 channels

Power: Torus RM 2.5 Power Isolation Unit

DAC: Lynx Aurora 16 Thunderbolt

I need to figure out chairs and any decorations for the room. I'm also trying to get some more room treatments. A friend has some that I may be able to borrow.

What JRiver features should be highlighted during demos?

I wanted something nicer for RMAF. I purchased some stuff a few years ago from Stage Craft. They recently started making some nice looking rack cases. I'm thinking about using the British Vintage Rack with a valance covering 2U at the top. It would like like this:



The valance could have JRiver in white and look similar to a classic Marshall head:



I also found this while searching. I have no association, but the mojave amp would make a nice avatar:



Any comments or suggestions?

Well, frankly, I would have a long time ago if I had a place that I could put a rack without caring about the noise level. (since they generally produce a lot of heat and noise compared to separates)

I did a little mock up with the Stage Craft British Standard Rack Head. This is only a 4U rack, but I would do a 10U with the top 2U being the valance with JRiver logo.

I am thinking of black tolex with white piping and either salt and pepper grill cloth or silver sparkle grill cloth.

Bluesbreaker suits the black frame better, in my opinion.
Salt and Pepper seems like it would be better suited to a lighter frame. (natural wood or painted)

Exhibitor types to choose from are Consultant, Consumer, Dealer, Distributor Global, Distributor US, Manufacturer, Music Sales, or Representative.

I fixed the extra space in front of "Control with Android . . . " and spelled "support" correctly.

The info page says "now other software will perform like JRiver does"; it should probably read "no other software will perform..."

Under features: "Lossless suport" should probably be "Lossless support"

There is also an extraneous "B" at the end of the "Parametric Equalizer" feature listing (i.e. "Parametric EqualizerB").

You should also consider whether all items under "Rich DSP Environment" should be in Title Case or not (Some Items Capitalize Every Word; Others only capitalize the first word.

I realized after I built the HTPC that I need some better ventilation coming in from the bottom of the rack. The case pulls air from the bottom with three 120 mm fans.

I have two options:
1.  Cut out an opening in the bottom of the rack case for air intake.
2.  Make a grill at the bottom of the rack case below the HTPC. Marshall uses gold grill vent on some of their amp or speaker cabinets. Their heads also have a gold control panel at the bottom.

Here are two mockups: a gold grill at the bottom or the bottom cutout and a BlackMagic MultiDock installed, too.

The MultiDock is a Thunderbolt 4 bay SSD drive bay. You can swap out SSD drives easily for audio/picture/video archiving or whatever other reason.

I used a font similar to Marshall's logo font for "JRiver" on the mockup. You really need a cursive font to make the cutout.

The second one looks much better to me. The different colored grillwork on the first one is a little distracting to me given the other colors in play in the middle; the second one has the added advantage of showcasing that awesome hotswap bay for SSDs.  

I might feel differently if the vent grill matched the top grill (inauthentic I know   )

I've pretty much decided on the second one. I just wanted others to feel included in the decision.   I haven't decided whether I need the MultiDock. It looks cool and sounds like a neat idea, but external 3.5" drives are so much cheaper. The MultiDock is designed for video editing when you need to save the drives in a "library" or do a stripped RAID for speed when working with 4K.

That is what I figured. I sent an e-mail to you immediately after my post asking about it. You may now disregard the e-mail (or maybe this is your reply to the e-mail).  

Here it is with the standard JRiver logo. It would need to be printed on black and then cut down to the logo size.

What font is MediaCenter? I'm guessing either Tahoma or Verdana. I did it in Calibri, but then realized the M was wrong. I worked on this a few weeks ago and forgot I never reselected the correct font.

Here it is with just white letters. The "MediaCenter" doesn't show up too well. Do you mind if I just use "JRiver" the standard way? I may be able to do a black letter outline, which should help.

I never was a fan of the Silverstone cases, because they all seem to be poorly designed in terms of airflow.  You can put slots in the bottom, but the fan placement is the issue.  Just compare it to your modern receiver.   My Denon AVR-5308 has no fans, but it does have slots on the sides, bottom, and top.   Heat rises, so the most common way is to force heat out the back or sides.  Your fans just are forcing air down in area that has no airflow. 

Here is a cool option for HTPC, but it uses an Receiver for the HTPC case.   http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=211666  I am sure you have old receiver laying around.

The new ones are even better and are a positive pressure design with 120 mm intake fans. The fans on the bottom are intake fans and pull cool air in from the bottom. The hot air is exhausted naturally out of the rear of the case.

I am sure you have old receiver laying around.

The hot air is exhausted naturally out of the rear of the case.

If you say so!    Just calculate the airflow volume.  No one on this forum will know the dimensions, so you will need to provide them.   There is a few calculators online to help you with the calculations.

I figured you overheat in that rack on how it was designed.  Typically, if you want a cool look, then you have to do a custom build around the object.  This requires a sheet metal shop to build it for you.  These shops can do custom ducting, so the airflow flows into your HTPC.   More expensive this way, but it is better designed.   
 

I've never owned a receiver. I have used a PC as my source for music since 1996.  

More $$$$$$ engineered testing on the receiver cases than any HTPC case.   Do you have to use a receiver case?  No, just use something you like.   There is always used equipment being sold on ebay, forums, garage sales,  etc.  Next door neighbor's son wants my parents console stereo from the early 60's to modify it.  Oh, my first computer was an Atari 800 in 1983.  I started in computers in 82 on an Apple.  Ok, I remember about the Mp3's in the early 90's.   Sounded like crap! I started ripping CD's with a Plextor in 1999 and EAC.  I prefer the sound from the CD.

What JRiver features should be highlighted during demos?

Audio wise for me two of it's biggest features are it's volume control which can also be changed with Gizmo and the LOUDNESS option.
I also really like the Input/Output options in DSP studio for up-sampling/down-sampling.
