Problem with audio playback not working..
« on: September 05, 2014, 12:37:53 am »

I have a problem playing any type of video with MC 19 and 20.
I bought the paid version of 19 & 20, uninstalled 19 thinking 20 would do it, however i have now re-installed 19 so now have both installed.
And both versions report the same error:

'Something went wrong with playback.
Playback could not be started on the selected audio output...
Also, make sure that your system has a valid sound playback device and that it is properly configured in playback options.' etc..

Could it be a particular codec?
I can't seem to find playback options in 19 too.
And when i play through WMP/Classic the sound and video is working.
However I do have an issue playing music through winamp, it dies after around 10 secs of audio playback..

Please help?

Mmm, that does not really help me. I have the same problem which only surfaced very recently after I switched back to direct sound letting my amp take care of the decoding (I have been running MC19 for the best part of a year without problems). Some of my bluray rips now report this error. I have set Bitsreaming to "Yes" and the audiodevice to AMD HD Direct Sound. If I let MC do the edcoding there no problems.

Do you have the dtsdecoderdll.dll properly installed?

What is this dll file and why should I be concerned about it?

I am not trying to be cheeky but I just don't understand. I am trying NOT to let MC interfere with my sound at all and have, I hope, set everything up in such a way that MC just passes the sound on to my surround amplifier, i.e.

Audio Device: AMD HDMI Output
Bitstreaming: Yes (HDMI)
Prebuffering: 6 seconds

Yet after the PC has gone to sleep and MC starts up again, none of my videos work. They all generate the "Playback could not be started on the selected audio output. The audio format may not be supported by your hardware"

I am baffled and it is spoiling a lot of the fun I used to have. Moreover, it makes a rotten impression on the rest of the family and discourages their use of MC.

Almost guaranteed this is the infamous AMD resume from sleep bug. The very latest drivers (14.9.1) help a bit but I've still run into issues.

You might also try disabling ULPS in MSI Afterburner or a similar program.
