How do I import MC19 Mac settings into MC20?

How do I import MC19 Mac settings into MC20? Would prefer to be able to import libraries and auto import settings only.

You can backup the library in MC19 then restore it in MC20 and choose the option to also restore settings.

It's really surprising to me that by version 20 there still isn't an automatic migration of data from previous versions. I think that should be a priority for MC21, or added to 20 at a later date.

It is automatic on Windows, but Mac uses a different install procedure that makes it more challenging.

Mostly worked but only some of my playlists tranferred. Fix? Would repeating the backup/restore help?

Strange, I had to go through the same process on my Windows system, Backup MC19 → Import MC20, and move files from the %APPDATA% folders.

All playlists should be included in a backup.

Remind me how this backup restore thing works, so I can get all my old playlists please?

File > Library > Backup creates a backup file.

File > Library > Restore restores that file.

Generally moving the files in the %APPDATA% folder (or the equivalent on OSX) manually is a bad idea.  In particular, you can end up with two Libraries that share a GUID, which confuses MC.

Backup and restore moves everything relevant.

Here we go again..... Successful download, then backup library in 19 .... Open MC 20 hit restore, get prompted to restore license.... Input License verbatim... Get prompted first the license server is unavailable..... Repeat the process and prompted server could not find that license.... Come on ! Really ?

PROBLEM SOLVED..... Reloaded 19, redid backup 2nd time, opened 20, hit restore**** then selected most recent backup from "browse" window rather than from "drop down"..... Restore goes seamless. !

All playlists should be included in a backup.

So should re-open MC19 and do another backup, then repeat the restore in MC20? And if I do so, should I delete from MC20 the library that I imported the first time?

You don't need to remove anything.

Correct.  Restoring the Library from a backup replaces the existing (currently active) library.  You don't need to worry about anything there before.

What would be nice is if there were a way to import playback settings. Or if there is a way, it passed me by. I would like this since I playback through a gigaport DtoA with 2 channels in a 7.1 container. A bunch of screwing around. Copying channels to other channels. Etc. Especially since I forgot what settings I used and had to open MC19 and MC20 and do a line by line comparison and adjust settings. It is now playing through all four of my sound systems, which is why I initially switched to MC18. MC was the ONLY high end player that fully supported giga-port!!

So far, all is excellent!

As Matt mentioned at the outset of this thread, there is.  The Library Backup contains both the Library itself, and all of MC's settings.  You can choose whether to restore just one or the other or both when you do the Library Restore.

It carries all customized settings over from the old version.
