Sync Flac files to Android
« on: September 21, 2014, 04:41:16 pm »

Hi,
Currently JRiver doesn't allow to sync FLAC files with Android devices. You must set auto convert to MP3 in Sync Handheld properties in order to get the files synced with your device.
Actually I am copying my FLAC files manually via windows to listen to them on the Android.
It would be nice to be able to sync them in JRiver directly without having to convert.

I am not sure yet if I can notice a difference in quality between FLAC/MP3 when playing from the Android, but well...Since the device can read these files, I think Its a good idea to have JRiver pushing them instead of Windows explorer.

Thanks!
Tiago

You should be able to sync FLAC files to an Android.  You might have to add FLAC to the list of supported file types in the Handheld options.

Hi Jim,

You are correct.
Just found the place in settings, added FLAC to the supported file types, and tested with one file.

JRiver rules!

Thanks for your support.

Let us know if you can hear the difference from the Android.  (Realizing that probably different Android devices will take more or less advantage of the extra quality of the FLAC files.  But still should be interesting and may even be worthwhile to split the topic if it gets going on this subject.)

In short, there can be a huge difference (especially with my outboard DAC and in simple convenience).  I wasn't really sure where to start the thread, since it could apply to most mobile devices in general.  It's kind of like asking if 24-bit/48 kHz source files are useful with a laptop or slate, I imagine.
