1. The menu options that you get from right-clicking the active TV screen are daunting. I don't understand much of them. Any chance someone could explain what Capture Filters, Capture Pins, Video Crossbars and Second Crossbars are and the various options mean?

2. I've noticed that the MJ player (for TV) runs the CPU at about 50 - 70%, whereas the ATI player is about 10 - 15%. Any chance of that changing in the future? Playback gets jerky above 70% (I can't run another program and watch TV using MJ)

Thoses are Microsoft DirectShow terms.

Filter - think of it as a "component", or a "processor". Data flows from the source (your TV tuner, or a mp3 file on your hard drive) to the destination (video/audio devices) through a number of filters, being processed at each filter.

Capture - recording video from its source onto your hard drive. In MJ version 8 capture is not functional yet.

Pins - connection points between different filters. They are the places where data pass from one processor to another, and therefore are places where data can be manipulated or format of data can be set.

Crossbar - a device on your TV card for routing singals.

You do not need to use most of the option items unless you have problems. Advanced users may choose to explore and change settings. A couple of things that you may want to try are:

1. Changing Brightness, Contrast, etc. on "Video Capture Filter".
2. Changing video and audio source using the crossbars. But I have provided other means to route video source (S-Video etc.) which are more intuitive.

As for CPU usage, I can not give you any definite answer at this time. If there is any thing I can do to improve this product I will do it - sooner or later.

Yaobing,
Just downloaded 8.0.197. I think it's using the WDM driver. (I can right click again!)

A couple things I noticed... The picture appears choppy (maybe not overlay?). Also, when I change to full screen mode I lose sound. I have to stop tv playback and restart it again to get sound back.

Is there also a way to maintain the tv aspect ratio?

Keep on keeping on,

Input Required:

I am looking at building another new system dedicated to Audio/Video and am trying to make sure that I purchase the right (desired) hardware the first time through.  I wanted to know which is better; A - Buying an ATI All-in-Wonder (the new one) w/64mb etc.., OR, B - Buying a rockin' video card and adding a TV card?  I will be doing a bit of video editing and CD/DVD burning.  Please feel free to email me directly at mailto:aRCLiGHT@cox.net

Thanks in advance for the input.....

>>Buying an ATI All-in-Wonder (the new one) w/64mb etc
right now the ATI All In Wonder 64 Meg Is The Best With A Built In TV Card

www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/aiw_radeon_8500/index.html

It also is better than The Nvidia Card (right now)

also just anounced is the 128 meg video card, a few days ago

www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/radeon8500128/index.html

they had a show on the Nvidia and the ATI cards On "Tech TV" ATI was there, Nvidia refused

I have had 2 Nvidia cards they are nice but not compatable with ATI's TV card (Gforce drivers)

i think untill Nvidia starts building a TV card Video Card Combo ATI is the Leader.

I think the ATI will come out with a 128meg all-in-wonder radeon card soon

I run some of the best and most video demanding video games from time to time

Mechwarrior 4, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Unreal Tournament, Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, Freespace 2, Starlancer, Quake III, Comanche 4 (Combat Flight Simulation), Enemy Engaged (Combat Flight Simulation), KA52 (Combat Flight Simulation), Gunship  (Combat Flight Simulation), MS Combat Flight Simulator 1, MS Combat Flight Simulator 2, MS Flight Simulator 2000, Jane's USAF  (Combat Flight Simulation)

They all run good on the ATI card

Hey King,

Long time no speak (ok type).  That was the card I was leaning towards.  I just wanted to make sure people aren't having problems with it.  I have one of the last Diamond video cards, because it was supposed to rock.  It sucks!!  No more driver updates and I get leftover pixelation.  Anway, thanks for the input....

Mr_X,

Regarding CPU usage when playing TV, I can not confirm your observation. On my machine, when MJ TV runs the CPU usage fluctuates between 4% - 20%, mostly below 10%. The CPU usage of MJ TV is below those of ATI Multimedia Center and Hauppauge WinTV2000.

Pehaps it's dependent on hardware? I am using an ATI TV-Wonder (PCI) with WDM drivers on a Win98SE machine.

Perhaps. I will do more investigation. CPU usage is always dependent on hardware, especially the amount of resource available. It just struct me too odd to see such a huge difference on your system. My tests were done on Windows 2000, Pentium II 400MHz, 256MB RAM.

I'll bet it's Win2k more than anything. I'm on Win98SE,PIII/550,256Meg RAM.

They did when it was new.

If you don't buy a new video card every 6 months your out of date.

Since I paid for my wife’s New Motor Boat, I now have her blessings to buy a supper computer (when they get the new IDE controllers on the motherboard (137gigs|PLS| per IDE drive).

And I will be getting ATI's new 128meg all in wonder card, when it comes out, along with 1Gig|PLS| ram (so I can play chess faster)
