Windows Server 2012 R2 Problem
« on: October 17, 2014, 05:23:55 pm »

After version 20.0.14 MC crashes soon after launch when running in Core mode Server 2012 R2. This is just stock standard vanilla Server 2012 R2 with nothing else installed. 20.0.14 or older would work fine for audio only. It runs fine in Server 2012 GUI Desktop mode.

I have attached the log file of the crash. It appears to only crash when building audio cover art thumbnails. It does not crash if Video is selected on the Tree.

Only a MC generated log zipfile is remotely useful, including a crash dump.
Note that we do not support running in Core mode as it lacks crucial components required for full function of MC.

I have included the MC Generated log zipfile FWIW. I understand the functionality is restricted to audio only (at least it was in 20.0.14!).

It didn't lack the crucial components to run Audio only up to v20.0.14 as I have been running this config for 8 months with v19 onwards! As well as desktop (GUI) mode, running video and TV functions just fine even with the current v.20.0.22 & also the WDM driver installs and works fine  ;D

In fact I have found it overall a worthwhile upgrade from Win7 with Audio quality and even video that doesn't seem to suffer from a slight motion judder I was seeing on W7. I even have the crappy iMon remote control software working just fine.  ?

We require OpenGL to be present on the system MC runs on since an early MC20 build, I couldn't tell you if that was exactly in 20.0.15, but its quite possible the Core mode just doesn't have it.

Thanks so much for that info :thumbsup  I can understand you dont want to support this configuration. It is not for the feint of heart!

Copied the necessary OpenGL dlls and it now runs fine using the latest 20.0.26 version. Have updated my Powershell scripts/shell & can now drop to Core mode running headless for "pure audio" mode using a hot-key & back to GUI for videos. The HTPC now runs as seamless as a Smart-TV  8)

I am struggling with the same problem, mc keeps crashing in core mode. Would be great if you could share this method please. Thanks.
