iRiver Handhelds
« on: February 14, 2003, 07:18:58 pm »

Does anyone konw if there is support (plug-ins) for the iRiver flash handheld players in MJ? I don't want to drop the $ for one if it won't work. I do not believe it is recognized as a seperate drive.

Thanks.
Cheers!

no all Handeld players need a Plug-In

Like mine as long as it is recognized as a seperate drive you should be ok.

run, MJ8 Or MC9 and see if the player shows up.

I found additional information on both iRiver's website as well as cNet that did indicate that it needs it's own software to install music on the device. I have not seen any plug-ins that work for this device. Anybody writing one any time soon?

I've already got a Nomad Jokebox and love it, but wanted to get one of these to have something a little smaller and even more portable.

If it is seen as a drive i do not see why software is needed.

if you try it it might work.

you could also try and see if you can copy music to it using windows Explorer.

pilotbum,

If it is true that the iRiver player is not recognized as a removable or fixed drive and that they have a proprietary way of making the connection to your PC, we will need them to send us a specification in order to create a Plugin for the player. We do not currently have a plan to create one, but we can contact them and see if they are willing to work with us.

I'm pretty sure it is not a fixed drive and that it needs its own software to load music. That's the indication that their website gives me. I haven't purchased one and don't plan to unless it will be compatible with MJ. I wan the ability to be able to share playlists and not have to create different ones for different devices. That does not seem practical. The unit has got good reviews on cNet so I am interested in purchasing one. If you were able to make a plug-in for it, I'd be the first ot buy it.

Thanks.

I'm eying this new iRiver iFP-195TC that holds 512mb. I've got a Nomad Zen and love it so far but would like something smaller for more active uses. Additionally I've been told that activity like running with a HD based player isn't all that good for it given all the shaking and pounding that many sporting activities subject these devices to. I gave up on the portable cd player idea a long time ago. Was looking at Sony MD's briefly but was advised against them from a friend who has had one. Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the guys at MJ will have a plug-in soon.

In the meantime, good luck skeaking the money from your wife. Our profit sharing checks used to be issued in the form of checks even though many of the guys had direct deposit. So their wives never knew we had profit sharing until all of a sudden there was some mysterious cash appearing once a quarter...
