asus essence one and asio in mc20 [solved]
« on: November 07, 2014, 10:29:17 am »

Hi quick question,
Been using different  dacs with no problems with mc20. I have the Asus as well now but have issues with it using the asio output in mc20, stuttering  and distortion. Tha Asus has latest firmware and drivers. Any ideas on what may be the problem. Wasapi work perfectly but I wanted the asio for bit perfect just to try.
Many thanks.  Chris

The only thing to try is to increase the buffering in the ASIO configuration dialog.

No body else having difficulties with asio and the Asus, must be a computer issue.

Are you using the JRiver asio driver or the Asus driver ... my friends has a Xonar card form Asus and he had to use their native driver for it to work.

BTW Wasapi can be bit perfect. Its worth trying both, and let your ears make the choice.

With the Xonar cards you can only get bit-perfect with ASIO (Without being touched by any internal mixers), not sure if the essence one has the same restriction. ASIO is the only one that will communicate directly with the soundcard.

Not true, if you use WASAPI exclusive or kernel streaming it's bit-perfect too. ASIO with a Xonar card is a PITA and I always ended up using WASAPI or kernel streaming. Glad I don't have that issue anymore as I dumped the Xonar card in favor of a (better) USB DAC. ASUS has a horrible ASIO driver, IMO.

I meant bit-perfect without being "touched", i.e. directly to the sound card without going through any mixers, DSP etc.

But yes, you can get bit-perfect with WASAPI etc, but it won't be going directly to the xonar sound cards.

Thanks for replies, the dac it's self sounds pretty good even compared to some far more costly equipment. Just that issue..
