MC crashing during dancing lesson
« on: December 01, 2014, 10:05:44 am »

I got some crashes during the last couple of dancing lessons. I was able to get two logs. Is there something that could be fixed?

They both crash when pause is hit:
8097281: 2524: Playback: CWASAPIPlugin::Pause: Start

I have no idea why that would crash.

Could you try toggling the "Disable event style" checkbox and see if that makes a difference?

I'll do this. It happens in very rare cases. Always after hitting pause indeed. Most the time only during a longer music session with many "Pause" Events and rare "Stop" Events.

I'll report back if disabling Event Style changes anything. May take a week or two till I can say something...

I again got a crash today. To be honest: I'm not absolutely sure if I disabled Event Style for my then used Audio Output (USB Audio Codec (WASAPI)). Can you read this from the log? If I reattach the device here at home, event style is disabled, so it should be disabled at the lesson to, if I didn't change a setting?!

I'm using an cheap external DAC (Behringer UFO 202), but I got the same kind of crashes with my internal Laptop soundchip as well. I'd like to give something which could help to reproduce, but somedays the crash happens, someday it doesn't. I don't see a connection between them. Could it perhaps be related to the Visualization (Viz Studio created)? I cannot deactivate it for testing, because I kind of need it for my lessons...

Unfortunately, your logs don't seem to indicate an actual crash. The log just stops, it doesn't log a crash or log anything at all.
What exactly happens to MC in this situation?

MC freezes during pause and windows fades its color bringing the message that the Application doesn't react any more. I of course don't have the time to wait if after a minute or so MC is able to run again, because they all paid for my lesson... So I have to end the process and restart MC.

Today I got another crash, this time without running a visualization. I was able to wait some time (about 5 Minutes) before I killed MC. Is there something usable this time?

I added a bunch more logging for the next build that should hopefully shed some light onto the problem.
If event style has always been disabled, maybe you could try enabling it? It vastly changes how everything is being processed.

Let's hope for another crash ;) Thanks for taking the time!

I was able to catch another log. Is there something helpful inside it?

At least I know where it hangs now, but I have no idea why that would happen.
Maybe Matt has any ideas, I'll poke him.

Matt, if you're looking at this, it doesn't "crash" per se, it causes a deadlock in that line.

I'm not absolutely sure, but all the times I can remember the crashes happened when I hit pause near the end of one song or in between two songs. Could it be related to another problem I reported there (and already forgot about it...).

I just tried to reproduce the bug using the files leading to the crash/freeze before with no success.

Based on my current observations it only happens if MC was up and playing for a longer time (at least 40 Minutes) with often hitting pause and play between two songs but never hitting stop.

And I only can repeat: everytime MC crashes I don't have the time to carefully take a look at what song was playing, and what exactly is happening because it only happens during working time and have to get MC (and the music) running again as fast as possible. Often I even don't get the time to save the crash log. Sorry for not being a bigger help here... And thanks again for your time!
