I am sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question, but I have a receiver (HK AVR 370), that is connected to the network and has DLNA functionality. It has an app that lets me controll volume, source and some menu-settings, I think the app uses DLNA, can i do the same with MC? Control settings, choose input and so on via DLNA?

To be honest i have never even tried the DLNA feature of MC, I usually use more "advanced" methods to control stuff, so I don't know how to try. The receiver show up under playing now, so I guess i can send music to it, but how do i try sending "remote commands" like choosing input or changing a menu setting on the receiver, where do I start?

You use MC to coomand and play to the renderer (push). Just create a pl aylist or select an album, and then right click, play to.. the renderer in question. It may or may not work out of the box. But if it doesn't then report back and someone here will help you fine tune the MC server settings so that it does work (at least with high probability thereof)..

To clarify (if i donīt misunderstand you), I don`t need to play music to the receiver via DLNA, I want to choose a different input on the receiver, or navigate the receiver menu and change the receivers settings.

No you cant do that via DLNA. The "only" things you can do are tell it to play a certain track, and you can use the play, pause, stop, fwd, rwd, seek, next, prev, vol+/-, mute commands on it while it is playing..

Just out of curiosity, do you know if the limitation is the DLNA-protocol itself, that some features are nondocumented/non-standard, or just the ability to do this is missing from MC?

It is basically out of scope of the UPnP / DLNA specification. This spec includes two services

• AVTransport - this implements methods that manage the "transport" e.g. load a track, plus play, pause, stop, fwd, rwd, seek, next, prev commands
• RenderingControl - this implements methods that affect how the track is rendered e.g. vol+/-, mute, and contrast, brightness, hue insofar as applicable

And there are no other services than these..
