Sending HTTP-get commands with MC?
« on: December 09, 2014, 03:50:31 pm »

Can you send http-get-commands with MC to control other hardware? I want to send a http-command to my global cache Ethernet to rs232-unit to turn on the projector when a movie starts.

I can't think of how to do this.  Hmm...

Can you do this with EventGhost? I know you can do it with iRule, which is what I use.
I'm not sure you want to have a movie starting as the trigger to turn on your projector though. Unless it's an instant-on, LED-illuminated projector, you will likely want to have the projector started at least 2 minutes before the movie starts.

Yeah, true, might not be the best example, but lets say changing the mode of the projector to 3D-mode if it is a 3D movie for instance. I am sure i can do it with eventghost, girder or similar. However it would be nice if MC could send a httt-get command the same way it sends a remote command or similar, quite a lot of different things accept theese http commands (including MC itself), something to consider as a possible feature perhaps?

It would be very cool to do this, yes!
That reminds me that I should program my iRule to switch to 3D on my new TV. And I should also hook up my wifi to IR iTach to my basement projector too.

I can't think of how to do this.  Hmm...

I had mentioned something similar to this in the possible MC19 features thread:

I think it would be great if MC could deal with custom web services.  I'd love to be able to update my personal databases when doing something in MC, and it would be fantastic if I could call a web service to do that.  Would also make it possible to call a web service to check if my NAS is off when I try to play a file, then turn it on with WoL.  I was also thinking about getting some WoL power strip that I can plug my stereo into so that I can turn it on and off with my phone.  Would be way cooler for MC to trigger something that can do that automatically instead.  Big idea, but I think the possibilities of opening up the event structure like that is wonderful.
