day 6 without internet
« on: October 05, 2003, 11:07:22 am »

WAHOOU !

Yes it was a kind of addiction!

It is really not easy to deal with it.

I just start to be able to run another kind of 'how i spend my day".

Using now a friend's phone 56 kps connection- that is really dreadfull.....

Anyway ,back to the " no internet word' for now.

Hey to all

I've been there, too.

And because of my MJ/MC addiction, I still downloaded every single nightly build. :P

Yeah, me too. It took about 20 minutes and that was when the file size was around 7 MB. It's up to around 13 MB now.

You're too young to remember that 300 baud modems (.3Kbps) were a miracle once.

if my cable modem goes out here, I just pick up someone else's wi-fi signal.  :)

But that is an advantage of living in NYC!

ps- my cable modem never goes out!

Welcome to my world. :'( :'(

And mine.  Just spent all day Sunday researching what the hell I need to do to be able to get Broadband internet.  Apparently it seems I have no choice but to move house as I live too far from the exchange.

So where do I live - out in the wilderness?  Outer-Mongolia? Middle of the countryside?  No - 2km from the town centre (population 220,000).

My 56k dial up connection only actually connects at around 25kbps.  Thanks to a great tip (from escafalo I think) FlashGet download manager has come to my rescue and enabled me to dial up and DL every new build in the middle of the night and hang up / shutdown when finished.

Don't get me wrong, for a very long time i had an modem 56 kps connection.
It is just that when you get a fast connection ,you forget about what you had before.

Beside it ,i did downloaded tons of songs from Emusic and MP3.com ,even with a 56 kps connection.

At this time ,i used Opera who was AGES faster than IeE,download acelerator and tweaked my connection.

But ,it was still a 56 kps connection...no miracle....

Try 7 days without power...after H-Isabel came through here a few weeks ago, that's what we went through in the DC area. No internet, no TV, no radio, no clean clothes, no fresh food...I read four books, how archaic is that!
