custom tagging question
« on: April 23, 2015, 08:47:07 pm »

Hi - I'm evaluating JRiver right now and considering moving over from Foobar so that I can get my collection organized more efficiently.

Most of my collection is in complete albums but I have a huge directory of single songs that I could describe as "commonly known" tracks that myself and others in the house can pick from for playlists etc. What I'd like to do is get rid of this directory because I have 99.9% of these songs already in original albums or "greatest hits" so its a complete waste of space.

I was thinking of creating a new tag and calling it something like "commonly known" and labeling the well known songs or (I hate the expression) "hits" in each original album folders so they can all be called up together when I need them.

Would this work OK, and if so what would be the best way of going about it ?

Thanks :)

Yes it would work, I use a similar tag to mark tracks I want to sync to my iPod

All you need do is create the tag as Boolean set it for the tracks as True then set up a smart playlist with a rule Common Tracks =True

It will then show all the tracks you marked
