MC20 ignores disc number tag in FLAC files over DLNA
« on: April 28, 2015, 04:53:17 pm »

Hello.

I realize that there is annoying bug in MC20 with tag disc number. When library is connected to audio files over DLNA, tag disc number is ignored. It results to wrong track order in multidiscs albums (sets). In this situation MC20 by default starts playing with all tracks number one from all discs in multidisc set, after that MC20 continues with all tracks number two etc. In attachment I send screenshots.

This problem occures only for DLNA connections. Is it possible to correct this behavior? Thanks in advance.

Speaking of this, I noticed that MC also seems to ignore the [Disc #] when determining if files to sync to handhelds are duplicates.

I have a bunch of audiobooks that have identical [Name] tags for a bunch of the tracks, but differing [Disc #] and [Track #] fields.  If the [Name], [Artist], [Album] (and maybe [Track #] though this might not even be considered) are identical, then it considers the files a duplicate and won't sync them.

Couldn't find any way around it other than to change the [Name] tag.

(Sorry, not directly related, but if you're in there playing with [Disc #] inconsistencies, this somewhat applies.)

I think that the UPnP CDS specification does not provide a property for disc number. It is an obvious gap in the specifications that apparently got overlooked..

I tested it with the foobar2000 in the place of MC20 with the same media server (Synology NAS) and there is no problem with DISCNUMBER tag in this configuration. Tag is present in DLNA data but MC20 ignores it.

Maybe they have mutually invented a common custom property ??

Do you have the skills to run a Wireshark capture, and post the results here?
If so then perhaps JRiver can be persuaded to pick up that custom property too...

I captured with Wireshark UPnP information received by foobar2000. According to this input Foobar2000 was able to recreate DISCNUMBER and TOTALDISCS tag for each track. See attachment. I don't know what algorithm was used.

Thank you for posting this. It looks like a normal CDS response without any custom tags for disc number or count. So frankly I also cannot imagine how foo bar creates those attributes. Perhaps it just makes up these attributes depending on how many tracks come in with the same track number on the same album. (??) Perhaps you could diplomatically ask someone over on their forum?

I have also found that Disk # can be unreliable on other devices, so as a work around I've also numbered each track as 101, 102...., 201, 202 etc

For those who are interested: the UPnP spec has a property called originalTrackNumber that describes -er- the track number. Obviously that does not implicitly support any kind of "disc X of Y" structures..

IMO you are right. Foobar assumes that media server sends tracks in right order and DISCNUMBER and TOTALDISCS tags recreates according to how many tracks come in with the same track number on the same album.

I know that bubble reads the disc # tag then appends it to the album name for sending over the upnp

I have done it through MC by just configuring the DLNA view for box sets to order by disc #, it works for my use case good enough
