Unable to view image in EOS (solved)
« on: July 18, 2015, 10:29:38 am »

Hi All,

Toying around with playlists in Advanced view for a EOS remote.  However, when I click on the playlist or event the album in Images,  it shows either this circular object in the middle that looks like it's loading, or nothing at all.

Any idea what this could be?

Is it a permissions issue or a bug?

I can play all over videos and audio but not images

By default, eos tries to retrieve the image at full quality from your library - so if you have high quality photos it's trying to download very large files. I'd suggest enabling Image Conversion in Settings.

Hi Soul_Rvr911,

That said, given speeds above 54mbit into the 300-400 mbit range, I would expect that any 3-5 Megabyte image should load pretty quickly right?

I've left the tablet "downloading" for awhile and still it displays nothing at all.

I just tried toying around with the conversion but one image that can display is 2500x4300 pixels at 300dpi. Another in a folder that cannot be displayed is 1024x768.

Very strange..   Even a resized version of on that wouldn't load gives the same issue

It sounds like MC doesn't like serving some of your images. On the left-hand side in MC, click Services & Plugins, then Media Network. In the Server dropdown at the top of the new screen, select the entry that contains (Library Server). Then in eos, make a playlist of images that won't load, and try to view them. Check the Status column in Activity log to see if any have a status other than Finished when the images don't load. If they do, try entering the URL in the Resource column for those entries into your browser and see what the response is.

Thank you Soul. I never new this plug existed.  I haven't solved the problem, but I've noticed two things from teh screenshot below.

When I view a file that works (top of the screenshot with ID = 80794) it displays perfpectly.

The next file is 80673 and seems to be converted at 3MB but then nothing displays on my tablet (Android)

Same thing goes for the 3rd image 80675.

I cannot tell if it's a client issue but I've toyed around with conversion/not converting.  The screen on the tablet just shows blank.

Attached is the screen shot.

Interesting; according to the logs you sent, the images appear to take around 8 seconds to send, but they are sent successfully.

I noticed that all of the Conversion parameters in your GetFile and GetImage requests are -1, which means that Image Conversion was set to Off when you captured those logs. Can you send logs with conversion set to another value, e.g. 1280x720? I'd like to see how large those images are.

Also, are you looking at the Image Viewer, or are these failures occurring on the Playing Now page?

Cheers!

The last test case, I had no conversion turned on.  It looked like it loaded from the server, but just blank on the app. This time i've set it to 640x480.  Closed JRiver and restarted the tablet.

I've attached more screens of the latest test. First screen shows a small image that does display.  The next one shows the conversion but no display of a larger image. Although the conversion still says -1.

In EOS, i'm using the Image Viewer.

The image that i'm testing with is 4288x2848 pixels. Size of 2.95MB

As a test, I took that same file and resize it to 800x600 and it works.

It seems the conversion is not working at all.

Although the conversion still says -1.

I've been playing around with this, and the only issue I've noticed is that the image on the Playing Now page isn't respecting the Conversion setting. If Image Conversion is enabled, the Conversion value is always sent, as expected.

The request for the Playing Now page's image uses File/GetImage with Type=Full, but the supplied Conversion parameter is ignored and the original image is returned. (Looking at the service's documentation I'd think this behavior is expected, since Conversion doesn't seem to be a valid parameter.) The Image Viewer's requests use File/GetFile, and the Conversion is respected there.

I believe the images are loaded sequentially, so if the Playing Now image takes a while to load it will prevent the loading of the images in the Image Viewer.

I can't see your screenshots

I'm moving houses last few days. Totally scattered brainged.  I forgot to attach them :)  Here they are..

No matter what setting I use, it seems the file conversion isn't being respected.

I cannot get either the "Playing Now" or "Image Viewer" to display anything unless I resize the image myself, then it works.

Give that I may view these pictures on a high-def screen, i'd prefer the large size. But when using a tablnet, the resize helps save bandwidth (Wireless)

Are you sure you're changing Image Conversion in the correct place? That's the only reason you wouldn't be seeing the Conversion value change. You have to go into eos' Settings, then scroll down to the Device Playback Settings, near the bottom of the page. You'll see Image Conversion as the 2nd item in this category, just under Audio Conversion.

Hi Soul_Rvr911,

I thought the setting was supposed to be in JRiver as it also has options for audio/video/image changing. (Options > Media Network > Client Options)

Are you saying that for each client I set up, that I need to go into those and change it there? It's not an issue as it appears easy to do but just wonder what the settings for on JRiver do.

Thank you again.  After I changed it in EOS (the file conversion) i'm now able to see the photos.

Glad to hear this is working for you now!

I believe the Client Options you're referring to are used when that instance of MC connects to (i.e. - is a client of) another MC library server. None of those settings have any impact on remotes like eos or JRemote.

Gotcha. Thanks!

I guess my thought that this would be controlled by the Server is incorrect.  Just like any themes have to be added onto the client and not served up by the server.

So I guess my problem all along was related to image size that the tablet couldn't render it.

Thank you again!
