The context for this thread is my desire to move my MC media server to my actual server (from my main HTPC) & I would like to avoid having to spin up a windows VM on there (it's a linux server).
One thing I'd need to do this the ability for a linux MC instance to be able to "serve" a BD (ripped as a BD) to a windows client & for a windows client to be able to rip a BD and store it in the library.
A few things I know, or think I know, on this subject;
1) BD/DVD playback on a linux client is not currently supported (as per

2) ripping a BD as a BD is predicated on use of AnyDVD HD (windows only)
3) when an MC client has the same path mapping as the server then the client will playback the file directly from its own mapped path without streaming through the server (mentioned in
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=94080.msg648407#msg648407 in this context)
4) linux and windows interoperability is currently hampered by the path rewrite problem (

If the issue in 4) is resolved then 3) becomes possible. If so, it seems that my preferred setup (BD rip/playback on a windows machine syncing to a linux server) might well be feasible at that point.
Is this correct or am I too optimistic?
