Media Center 10.0.42 beta available
« on: January 21, 2004, 05:21:01 pm »

Media Center 10.0.42 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

Please keep a list of issues you find and report them with each build until we have addressed them.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10042.exe
PLEASE NOTE -- This build may not work correctly with handheld players that are not set to use WMDM -- the iPod, for example.  Please wait a few builds for this.

10.0.42 (1/21/04)

1. Fixed: Creating a smartlist from the Action Window would show a "Drag files here" window that didn't do anything.
2. NEW: Smartlist searches are shown in a separate, full length search bar.
3. Changed: Search bar width about 50% wider.
4. Changed: Added 'Close' button to fullscreen and windowed top control bar.
5. Changed: Display control bars have button tooltips.
6. Changed: Display control bars don't dissappear as fast in full screen mode when the mouse is over one of the bars.
7. Changed: Removed confirmation from the end of the Photo Printing Wizard.
8. NEW: Print Wizard remembers printer and user settings between sessions.
9. Fixed: Skin Effects dialog could cause crashes on some systems.
10. Fixed: Player buttons could get fired on mouse up when finishing dragging the volume or position slider.
11. Fixed: View scheme groupings work more logically with the sorting option "Ignore articles" turned on.
12. Fixed: Media Modes would not work properly if too much tree customization was done. (now creates scheme groups when necessary)
13. Fixed: Media Center would be 'Always on Top' on some machines. (maybe fixed -- please let us know)
14. Changed: Media Center always shows tray icon. ('Minimize to System Tray' option changes how MC minimizes)
15. Changed: Tray icon toggles Media Center's visibility. (instead of show only)
16. Fixed: When MC updated it could lose the scroll position, selection, etc. when it shouldn't have. (affects several areas)
17. NEW: MC shows a "Loading page..." message when loading a webpage view.
18. Changed: The way the tree is constucted for Portable Devices. Currently this only works for WMDM devices.

10.0.41 (1/20/04)

1. NEW: MC includes two new Hairstyle skins.
2. NEW: Action Windows blink for a while when started from outside the Action Window.
3. Fixed: MC could report "Failed to create handheld plug-in" on fresh installs. (hopefully fixed -- please let us know)
4. Changed: Several usability enhancements to Action Window Handheld system.
6. Fixed: Send To wasn't working properly with handhelds.
7. Changed: Action Window headers only show buttons when appropriate. (back, close, tools)
8. Changed: After a CD burn is complete, dialog checkmark option is "Clear burn queue" instead of "Save burn queue".
9. Fixed: CD burn queue entries could be deleted while burn was taking place.
10. Fixed: CD ripping and burning progress action windows would not display properly for the first few seconds.
11. NEW: Retooled "Build Playlist" system in Action Window and unified all playlist creation through it.

I may need to measure that

At Any rate try this

Fill up playing now with music.

then go to the Very small search box and add rule "Duplicates"

add a parm like name

click on a song to play it

the song that plays is not the one you clicked on

what plays is the last played file.

this is not new, but i kept forgetting to post it.

Is it possible to run both MC 9.1.316 and 10.0 beta on the same machine?  If yes, am I jepardizing 9.1.316's stability.  Thanks in advance for the guidance.

Is the search box really bigger?  I can't tell....still looks so tiny next to the Media Center Zone box in the top middle of my screen.

King, I tried your scenario and you're right.  I feel like I've found an Easter Egg!  ;D

This program is really awesome.  I burned a CD today and for the heck of it asked it to print the CD cover.  Nice touch guys!  It's nice to be able to print out that list of songs on the CD with order and time of track.  Too bad I don't use CD boxes anymore.  I throw them into sleeve or into a book.

Brings up another question.  When I am looking at list of mp3s and then decide on bunch and add them to playing now...then I go to playing now view....why is my list now thumbnails?  It's nice to have the option to see the covers maybe but I still want to see these tracks in a list view most of the time.  Looked through options but can't see how to set this.

I still think you need to be pretty familiar with Media Center to make use of many of the features.  This is obvious when you want to change the view to HAIRSTYLE (hate the name in case you're still considering renaming I will vote for that).  Anyway, it would be nice to have a button someplace or icon or something to change to that view easily instead of having to find the option under the View menu.  This will be undiscovered feature in many cases I'm sure.

Are you changing the way MC works with the iPod?  I ask since I still have some problems with MC and the iPod that I do not have when synching the same set of files with Ephpod.  I'm hoping that these might be resolved if you're reworking the iPod implementation in MC.

Thanks,

Larry

The action window has a vertical scroll bar even if the content of the windows fits in without scrolling.

When one selects a directory in the tree it automatically expands; maybe the incative directories should automatically collapse to reduce the clutter.

Menu options that have buttons associated with them could display the button icon in the menu.

Are you saying when you click on add rule, there is an option for Duplicates? or are you typing that in?

Cause I've heard people talk about this duplicate search, but have been unable to find it.

This build d/loaded itself automatically to a temp folder and started the installation routine itself. I wasn't offered the usual option of storing the file in my MC10 folder.

I'm sure this is "by design" but I would have thought it was worth a mention in the changelog to warn users about it.

Is there going to be an easier way to add items to smartlists (similar to the way you can right click and add items to playlists)?  Once you get a lot of albums in the library, the smarlist creation can be rather sluggish.  It would really be a nice feature if you could simply right click an album or other item and "send to" a smartlist.

something like this for the actual search bar would be nice. I guess it would kinda mess with things in playing now if it was how it is now.

Hairstyle skins aren't being applied until you exit and re-enter Hairstyle.

Afraid not - still seeing it here.  Darn.  In fact, it was intermittent - now seems to be continuous.

However (from a few minutes use), it seems to have stopped 'locking' out the autohide for taskbar and side toolbar, whereby I had to drill back down to desktop to unhide them (or hit Window key to get taskbar back).

WinXP Pro (latest updates), GeForce 4400 (latest nVidia drivers).

Bug (as of 10.0.38):
1. The Auto Expand Tree option does not work if you click on a Favorites location.  You are placed on the folder the favorites points to, but no Auto Expand.  If you navigate to the folder manually (My Computer location), Auto Expand does work.

Maybe backup then remove your database from the MC\Data directory.

Try an uninstall / reinstall.

Start another thread if we need to dig more.

I dig the new tray icon toggle, but...

The typical behvior for a tray icon is double-click to activate or deactivate and single-click to acknowledge tray messages.  This is a fairly tired and true convention...

Interface convention has taught me to double-click on the MC tray icon...this just causes MC to flash on the screen for a second.
