Wireless home audio
« on: October 04, 2004, 10:16:48 am »

Not sure if this is the proper forum (or if this question has been asked/answered elsewhere), but can anyone recommend a good system to connect my pc to my stereo wirelessly?

I've considered Apple's Airport Express, but it sounds like it's a person to set up with Windows XP (esp w/ SP2). Plus, it's bad in apt buildings (I live in NYC) and you can only stream to one set of speakers at a time, which is idiotic to me.

Any suggestions on this topic would be much appreciated.

Not sure if it meets all of your needs but SlimDevices makes the squeezebox ( http://slimdevices.com/ ).

You have to setup the open source software server called SlimServer - which will also allow you to stream music over the network/internet.  Currently it doesn't support the APE format, but it will stream most other formats.

I stream wirelessly thru my Tivo.  Lots of information here about that approach.

The Creative WiFi device works pretty well. It doesn't work with MC though. :(

Has anyone attached a SimpleFI from Motorola via Media Center.  The software that comes with it leaves a lot to be desired.  It would be so nice if the output of Media Center could be directed to the RF link.
