album covers are now changing when i add a new one?
« on: August 20, 2005, 02:38:10 am »

hi

i have like 8 playlist. when i add a new song. then try to add cover art for it, i notice in my playlists that the cover art i choose for that album has now changed other albums to that cover art. Example... playlist dance. added song tiesto, put tiesto cover art to it, then the song in dance called deepsky has now lost it's deepsky coverart, and changed to tiesto. Any ideas why this is happening, i just added about 30 songs through out my playlists and it won't allow me to add the coverarts the way they should be.

Any ideas would be apprerciated..
thanks Chris

Normally, you should add cover art before you make a playlist.  That's the only thing I see you're doing differently.

The folder.jpg thing that XP does might be part of it.  If the folder.jpg exists, it gets used as cover art in some cases.  Try a search here for more info.  Also check your settings.

whatdo you mean by add cover art before i make a playlist? how do i do that?

I got frustrated so i deleted all playlists and Cleared library and then made whole new playlists 9 total playlists after making them switched to thumbnails view some of the albums\cover art was there some not, so started on soundtracks and filled in all the cover art for the soundtracks by clicking on the thumbnails that didn't have one then clickin add file going to my covers folder and selecting appopriate picture for that song\album

After done w\ all of the soundtacks. i'd go to rnb\dance\rock\classics etc... and while adding the pictures to the tracks that didn't have any, i'd notice other songs were chnagin as i changed the track i was dong. Example if i changed 6 pink floyd songs out of 10 that would be fine, but then if i went to chnage the pink floyd ..the wall , then it would change the ones i did previously also?

Confussed here. never had this happen to me??

As you know from my thread on the same subject, I have the same problem Jim. I did a search on folder.jpg, and found it difficult to understand what this folder does, and where it comes from. Also, after checking my settings, I found out that I did not have MC set to save the cover art in the mp3 file. Could this of been the problem?  I found out that I do have a number of folder.jpg files on my C drive. Should I leave them there or attempt to delete them?

Windows XP looks for an image called "Folder.jpg" inside the album folder.  If it finds one, it creates a hidden file called "AlbumArtSmall.jpg"  That image is used as the thumbnail for the folder in Windows Explorer.  Media Center can supposedly sense the presence of the "Folder.jpg" image, but it has never worked for me.  :(

OK UNREAL

What am i doing wrong again? i forgot how i fixed it last time?  Same issues. i had to go in take all my coverart off of my 7000 files, becuase it wouldn't work w\ another program i had (main lobby)  no i'm trying to add the cover art back but not embedded in the file. i deleted all playlists. here's what i'm doing... build playlist group called it adult comedy then playlist name adam sandler add the files.. look at it, 1\2 the cover arts are there other files no coverart, so select them left click  then add  image points to C: application mediacenter 11 coverart folder, add the pics. then build playlist adultcomedy cheechand chong, add em, left click add image, they all show up, go look at adam sandler the ones that were'nt there when i added sandler to the playlist and added the sandler coverart now changed to cheech and chong..

Help please?

I have no idea what you're doing.  When I have new files that don't have cover art, after I import them, I click on Media Library, then I highlight all the files on the same album.  Right click them, Image, then either Add From File... or Get From Internet.   Then you're done.

Personaly, I'd remove the thumbnail directory.
Then I'd open MC and work from the library, not from playlists.
I'd make certain I had art/covers for each selection

Now go to your playlists and they should be fine.

I use folder.jpg as my cover art scheme.
My files are in artist/album directories
The folder.jpg is in the corresponding album directory.

I do not allow WMP to update information for files, so when it runs on occasion to view a video, I do not get the folder_small and the other files. XP itself uses folder.jpg, but does not create them. WMP is the culprit.

I had a similar problem with missing art for some files way back in early 11.0 builds.
Deleting the thumbnail directory then making certain each selection (not just album) had cover art fixed the problem.

I just did as you have tried, make a playlist, set the view to album art, and all is well here.

ok sounds like you may have the answer.. to get this right. could you walk me threw this? 1. remove thumbnail directory? 2. folder.jpg as cover art scheme? you rfiles are in artist\album directories. that mean like mine? D drive music rock ACDC then album names? 3. the folder.jpg is in corresponding album directory?

sorry  i just wanna be sure i do yer steps correctly i'm going on 2 days here trying to figure this out, and it was rockin fine for about a year till i removed all coverarts from the songs..put tags in files!

Thanx Hammer

I have never been able to figure out the folder.jpg either but i know that trying to add cover art into files that are in play lists is not correct.

First make sure all your songs have their correct tag for album, then go to audio under media library and set the view scheme for album thumbnails. Next go out to the internet and find all the album art, for ones that it didn't find simply go out to amazon or allmusic an add the album art manually, now all your songs should have associated album art with them.

Put what ever songs you wish into a playlist, choose thumbnails once again and as each song comes up in the playlist the corresponding art work will be there.

That is correct.
Don't forget to change the option in WMP so it does not update selections.
It'll do that anytime it is running, not just when you play audio.
