license problems
« on: January 01, 2005, 09:58:48 pm »

I am having trouble getting media jukebox plus to work.

I bought the program, ran the registration file.  Then, when trying to install the license, I get "Error installing Media Jukebox license. Failed opening license file". Based on other similar emails, I went to the restore link to try a license installation through this route.  Didn't work--very frustrating.

Please help.

Please provide more details (but do not post your license here or it will be revoked).

Version of MJ?  Copy your system info from MJ Help and paste it here.

Did you check the date on your PC?

Try this page for other possibilities (including a right click work-around for installing the license):

Did you try the right click work-around?

[from the FAQ]
Q: Can I save the install key instead of installing it directly?
A: Yes. You can right click on the link and choose "save as" instead of clicking on it. Then, in Windows Explorer, just double click on the file to install it.

I am trying to save the link without success.  Here is what I do:

I have followed the links you provided.  They allow for license restoration and a registration key. I download the link on my computer and open it--message: license for Media Jukebox PLUS was successfully installed.

A second window also comes up: "License has been successfully installed...You will find your Install Key in a separate browser window (probably behind this one). To save it, right click on the link and use the "Save As" option." However, no separate window comes up and I can't find anywhere to get this installation key...just the registration key.

Look behind the active window for others, but something (a popup blocker?) may be preventing the window from opening.   You should see the Registration Code, a long sequence of letters and numbers.  You right click on it to get the "save as" dialog.

I have done all this--even disabled or uninstalled all popup blockers from my computer.  I have not had this problem with other software purchased on internet.  So, it looks like no easy solution to this (based on our attempts)--how do I get a refund. Thanks for trying.

I'm confused.  Once above you said that registration succeeded.

When I purchased the program, it allowed me to open/download a registration key. The registration key file shows up as media jukebox (5-digit number) when I download it to my desktop. Alternatively, I get to this file through an email link sent by Media Jukebox that is a 25 digit number (AMBZ9-......). I open the file and it says "license ... successfully installed" but then a second window opens saying "A license for your JRiver software has been automatically installed. You will find your Install Key in a separate browser window (probably behind this one). To save it, right click on the link and use the "Save As" option."  No second window opens. If I run media jukebox at this point, it is still the trial version, indicating to me that, although the registration/license file has worked, a second installation key file is still needed that I do not receive.

I have tried work-around like you suggested, retore license, and all of the other suggestions, but the furthest I can successfully get is to the point where I download a registration key. Still the conversion to the PLUS version does not happen.

Do you have permission to write to the registry?

I don't know what that means, so I guess not.

Try installing MJ as a user with administrative rights.
