Media Center 11.0.211 Beta Available
« on: March 10, 2005, 05:25:29 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your bug reports, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  Some plugins still do not work.

If you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
[build removed by Matt -- there'll be a new build later today]

Important:  Please post only bugs you're sure about here.  Anything else and especially anything that requires an answer should be posted in a new thread with a subject like "MC11 problem with ..." or "MC11 question about ....".    Feature requests should be postponed until we've finished 11.0.  Thanks.  -- JimH

This build contains lots of new stuff, so you may want to sit this one out unless you're feeling adventurous.

Thanks for yet another update!

Just tried the UPnP server and it still has the same isses as the last release, inluding one that was mentioned as "fixed".

1)  Wave files don't play, error message states that it's an "unsupported format" and is "not playable".  If I understand things correctly this is the mime type bug.  (MP3 conversion works OK, great job on adding the configuration options!)

2)  Transport functions (pause, FF, RW) don't work

3)  Alpha search does not work

On the plus side it seems like navigation speed is improved from the last release.  Also, image file serving seems to work well (with JPG at least).

A quick run through MC shows that evrything seems to work OK without any issues.

BTW, I'm using a Philips Streamium SL400i with a wired Ethernet connection.

Nice Tivo!
I noticed it does not eject anymore after a burn.  I'm thinking that was a mistake.
I'll go test Tivo now.  Any chance HME is still being considered?

I had trouble with the install, but I will tell you I chose to Un-Install v. 10 during this install.  i don't know why.  I've had both running in parallel, and every time it asks me if i want to Uninstall 10, so this time I did.  So the following may be tainted by that.

10 seemed to unstinstall fine.

I am pretty sure I closed everything down before I started.  The install finished and it said "do you want laund" which was checked and I said okay and it started but that dialog froze (the installation program froze).  So I was in MC and checking some stuff and something seemed off and I checked the version and it was sstill the previous.  Its like it had launched MC without finishing the install.  I brought up the process list and both MC and the MCinstall were running.  I had to crash out of the install.  I ran MC again and it was still old version.  I closed everthing, checked to see it was not running, and re-ran install and it was fine.  So perhaps my initial install ran when MC was running but I think you check for that.  It was all a bit off.  I usually have perfectly smooth installs.

-- I had crash probems when deleting files -- those seem to be gone, actually in the last version but i forgot to post.

-- going to test Tivo now  (EDIT:  Tivo works great for me, althoug a lot of warning messages - will post for John in the Tivo forum)

-- two plugins were uninstalled, PlayingNow and Audioscrobbler, others were not uninstalled.

-- everything seems fine for me

12. NEW: Added Media Server program to start menu for running Library, TiVo, UPnP, etc. servers in the background.

Okay, so i went to go explore this and clicked on the menu item "Media Server".  Music jumped to life (startling me!) and the PlayingNow plugin activated and I have a little media server icon in the task area.  But MC itself didnt launch.  Interesting.  Its running in the background I guess, as you say.

So I assume the music started b/c my Options have it start playing immediately, is there a /switch on the command line i could use to make the "Media Server" start quiet overriding the MC option which I want to keep?

Carryover from 11.0.205 (unfixed):

Like MC 10, MC 11 has this same UI drawing bug:

The highlight bar in the Org Tree (left) is backwards in color depending on the Focus.  When Focused, it's dim...when not focused it's bright.  If you follow all the other windows, you'll see what I mean (when focused and not focused).  This very confusing when trying to figure out which window actually has the focus.

---

Ctrl-2 does mini-me (not Escape as the tooltip says).  No more Ctrl-E?
Ctrl-3 does Windowed view

Ok...then the bug is the Tooltip for the Mini View toolbar icon (it says press Escape).

---

MC11 crashes all over the place when trying to build a data CD burn list (of mp3s) during the manual rename of directory folder names.  I've tried to 10 times in a row to build this data CD with 8 folders and after I attempt to rename each folder, MC crashes on about the 2nd or 3rd rename everytime.  I tried saving the layout to disk to save my progress, but upon restore of a layout MC crashes too.

I don't think that's a bug.  Try starting a new thread and explaining in more detail.  It could be skin related.

*CUE FILE ISSUES*

- MC complains it can't tag CUE tracks when update tags on file changes is ticked. It should update the CUE files (text) directly.

- If an album with imported+analysed CUE tracks is moved (within MC) after import MC loses the address of those imported CUE tracks. THink about this, its lost the cue traks, a fix of broken links removes these items.. A move is a basic operation, MC should not be droping the ball on this.

1.   There is no ability to access common DVD commands (e.g. menu, change audio track, subtitles, etc.) by keypresses (or any other means that would allow a remote control to be used to while playing a DVD).  Without this, DVDs are not playable (for any practical purposes) in Theaterview.

2.   When playing a DVD in Theaterview the dialog that asks if you want to continue playing where you left off, pops up. This dialog is not implemented any differently in Theaterview and thus looks terrible. There is also no way to answer it using a remote.

3.   The removable field is not filled in when items are imported

4.   Bitrate field for all MPEG video files is shown as 165722112

5.   Using Drive&Devices, moving a file from under one of the My Network Places shortcuts to another can result in deletion of the file instead, i.e. it doesn’t appear in the new location it was to be moved to, but presumably MC thinks it has been copied and deletes it from the old location. This same problem does NOT occur when moving files in the Microsoft Windows Network part of the My Network Places tree.

6.   When moving photos to another location within “Drives and Devices” the photos are moved, but often the view of the folder the files were moved from is not updated properly (e.g. some of the moved files are still shown, but with an X through the thumbnail showing that the underlying file is no longer present). This occurs when moving files between network shares (where I keep my photos). I have not done detailed testing to determine whether this problem crops up in other contexts.

7.   Executing MJEXTMAN.EXE unminimizes Media Center.

Local Directory as Handheld- Crash
« Reply #10 on: March 11, 2005, 02:32:52 am »

I have a directory on a local drive that I use for transcoding.
I set this up in Options->Handheld
Path- D:\ToDo\Output
Name- TransCD
I checked Enable file conversion during uploads.
I chose MP3 Encoder
I clicked the Advanced button and set for Custom
I used --preset extreme --scale 1 for my command line.

Click OK and get back to MC.

I shut MC down and later ran it and chose some songs to send to the Handheld.
After a brief pause, nothing happened. No list, no indication of anything.

I clicked on Drives and Devices in the tree.
I see a quick "Analyzing Devices" window then I see the tree.
TransCD is shown.
If I click on it, I am returned to Start
If I right click on TransCD, MC simply crashes.
Faulting application media center.exe, version 11.0.211.0, faulting module media center.exe, version 11.0.211.0, fault address 0x001c2064.

I wanted to see if the directory was ok so I opened Handheld Options.

The encoding options are back to WMA
Even without the crash, the encoding options for handheld do not stick.

What version of those plugins (check plugin manager)?

BUG: Complete Album calculated field does not work for multiple album sets.

I have many of these - one example:  Jimmy Buffett - Meet Me in Margaritaville

This is a 2 disk set, fully tagged, both disks with a complete list of track numbers, the Disk number field used to differentiate the 2 disks.  However, Complete Album shows up as false unless I force the 2 disks to have different album names.

This will fail for most any box set etc, and screws up any query/viewscheme that is looking for complete albums.

? OK, just installed this build and when I went to install it I clicked on Express Install by mistake. I normally click on custom.

Anyway, when it started up it said I had 30 days left of the trial. The copy I had installed before hand was a fully bought and paid for registered copy. I now have to restore a licence which will take one off my limit.

I use v10 full at home and testing 11 on laptop but I dont want to find out when the beta is over and I move over to the PC than i have no licences left.

Install of build 211 failed on my Windows 2000 machine.  I currently have build 205, and I have installed dozens of v10 and v11 builds on this machines.  Right now, I only have v11 on this machine

1. Custom install
2. Downloading the Windows Media Format redist. Note, this is new.  No previous installs ever did this.
3. Get a message that installation of Windows Media files failed. Installation of Media Center can not continue.

No previous builds have done this, and I know this machine is fully up-to-date on all versions, sps, and updates.

I will try on my XP Pro machines this weekend.
