Media Center 11.0.231 Beta Available
« on: April 04, 2005, 05:46:43 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your bug reports, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't fully support it.  If you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

For a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110231.exe

Please post bugs you're sure about here.  Anything else and especially anything that requires an answer should be posted in a new thread with a subject like "MC11 problem with ..." or "MC11 question about ....".    Feature requests should be postponed until we've finished 11.0.  Thanks.  -- JimH

New build again rebuilt all 6676 thumbnails on import media. I ran import media a second time and it said it was rebuilding 6676 thumbnails but quickly ran through only a couple hundred before ending. A third attempt did the same. This was after MC rebuilding all 6676 thumbnails yesterday in ver 11.0.230.

By build it actually means "Check to see if we should build, and only build if necessary."  We'll try to clean up the language.

All I know is the first import with this build reprocessed each thumbnail taking quite a while to do it. The second and third attempts sound more like what you are describing. There it says it is "building thumbnails" but stops at around 500 or so.

I do not have the dropdown arrow and filenames when editing tags. Was this feature changed from 10 to 11? I click to edit a field and get my default background color and the current tag entry; no alphabetized list of terms to choose appears like it used to in MC10 which was skinned.

We can see the problem.  We'll take a look.

The "Found external changes" thing during import is because of daylight savings time.  We'll try to fix it next build.

THEATER VIEW
============
1) Playing Now  - the track list doesn't scroll as the green arrow showing the currently playing track moves down, so the arrow vanishes when it gets further down the listing.

2) Green arrow takes a long time to update when jumping to another track

3) When using "Toggle Zone" a couple of things don't update correctly:

a) The title bar doesn't refresh until the cursor is moved.  I have used [Zone] in my title bar so I know which zone I am changing, when I press "Toggle Zone" this doesn't update until I press something else.

b) When in Playing Now view and you press "Toggle Zone" the information at the bottom updates, but the track listing doesn't update,  You have to press "Playing Now" to get the track list to update.  Both should update together.

VIEW SCHEME USING AN EXPRESSION
============================
Semicolon Delimited Library Fields are not being handled correctly when used in a View Scheme Expression.

I have created a Library Field (List, semicolon delimited) called Artists

I have created the following expression in a view scheme

If(IsEqual([Artists],, 1), AlbumArtist(), [Artists])

This is outputting  "artist1;artist2", so the [Artists] librbary field isn't being treated as a list.

So I get something like:

(multiple artists)
Abba
ACDC
Sting
Tommy;James Morrison
Vince Jones

Instead of;
(multiple artists)
Abba
ACDC
James Morrison
Sting
Tommy
Vince Jones

CD RIPPING
========
Progress bar only works for 1st track and then stays at 100% for remaining tracks

1. I lost all my custom toolbars as well.

2. Can anyone tell me if they have the same problem with the drop down 'edit' box that appears when you make tag changes manually; I lost it and I'm trying to see if it's related to software I have installed or whether it's an engineered change.

3. Going to reiterate that MC11 DSP has a bug. Playback @ 32/192 uses 55-60% of the cpu constantly. Wavelab 5 and MC10 use average of 6% cpu at the same bit/sample
rate. Would appreciate some feedback on this.

JC,

Not exactly sure which dropdown box you're talking about, but I get dropdown boxes for artist, genre etc when editing tags in the action pane or the main panewith .231

Hope this helps

You'll only see a drop-list for fields with less than a few thousand values.  Otherwise, a Windows combobox becomes too slow to be usable.

My smartlists are getting tough to edit when they contain lots of variables. I click on one variable to edit (usually ones that are imputed last, hence they are on the far right) and it instead calls up a different variable (usually 2 variables to the left of the one I'm trying to edit).

Did this make any sense to anyone?

Yes, this has really bugged me too.  Also, when editing a search term with the wizard and clicking ok, if I then try to click on any other part of MC, the dropdown box for the smartlist search terms mysteriously appears first.  For ages now, MC11 has had a common 'second click' requirement for the 'edit with wizard' dialogues.

Save this view.... "for this location" and "for this location and sublocations" really should do what it says on the tin. (imho, of course), I may try and make a case for this later on at some stage. It's something I could make a great deal of use of.

Ha Ha - d'you reckon they have that Ronseal ad in the U.S., Marko?!  ;)  Totally agree with you - it was driving me mad, and I still don't know what it actually does - just that it doesn't do what I think it should...

I've noticed the same thing in the past.  It's been doing this since .190 or so, at least.

After being similarly confused by these options for quite some time, I believe I've figured it out.  I don't know that I completely like the way it works currently, but if there is to be a discussion of this functionality, it would probably help to understand the current system!   ;D

The way I think of it is:
The Customize View settings are similar to Windows Permissions settings (on NTFS that is).  By default, all view schemes automatically "inherit" their settings from their parent unless they have an explicit Customize View setting applied.

If you click the "For this Location" button, you apply a Customize View setting to a particular View Scheme.  However, this means that any child View Schemes of the one that you customized that are still "inheriting" their settings change to match the parent's new settings.  If you had previously applied a separate Customize View setting to one (or more than one) of the children View Schemes, it's settings are left alone (since it is no longer inheriting).  I must also say that I don't entirely understand the purpose of this button since it seems to be what the program does anyway when you apply a Customize View setting and just click OK (some clarification on the difference - if any - would be nice).

If you click the "For this Location and all Sublocations" it essentially resets all of the child View Schemes back to Inherit mode.  If they previously had their own separate Customize View setting applied they (the settings) are obliterated.

Once I understood how this works, I actually came to like it quite a bit.  The only thing I wish for was a "Propogate this View's Settings to Children" button that would explicitly apply the settings to all of the children instead of simply reseting them to inherit.  This would enable me to have the children all set similarly (easily) but the parent set differently - as this happens to be how I like to have many of my view schemes arranged (EG. I keep the big "Audio" view scheme sorted by Date Imported but sort many of the children view schemes in a more standard Artist - Album - Tracknumber - Name manner).

Still see the following problems in .231 as reported in separate posting about a week ago.

1. G-Force gold visualization and display of cover art during track change is not working on ape files, but works fine with MP3. Cover art is embedded in both file types.

2. File type conversion during upload to Zen-Micro will not work on ape files and I get a message saying file type not supported. File conversion from mp3 to wma and vice versa works fine.

I tried to burn an MP3 CD and found that MP3 CD burning is not fixed yet.

- Filenames have .MP3 ENCODER ending.

- Converter doesn't work properly. At this time it made a 96 kB file from an 8 MB Ogg Vorbis file. MP3 option was:  Custom "--preset CBR 320 --lowpass 19". Other files on that CD were already in MP3 format.

- Status display stops at "Writing lead-in" and shows it until the disc is ready.

The converted file is selected.
