I just got this error message:

First of all I installed MC 11 in C:\Program Files\J River etc, not as stated above.

I have MC11 in "C:\Soft\MC\" because I like to simplify things. It works normally.

I guess your MC11 has mixed information about its location.

Is "C:\J River\Media Center\" the program folder of your earlier MC installation? Did you uninstall the earlier version completely?

Only the later MC10 versions are fixed to work with MC11, but even that combination has problems in some cases. I have found that sometimes MC11 uses plugins and visualizations from MC10 program folders.

In this thread I explained how I cleaned one of my PCs because it had various MC problems: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=26917.msg186615#msg186615

I had installed v11 on top of v9, which I guess is what caused the problems.

There's a window that pops up when you install v11, that says more than one version can co-exist on a computer. I think that message should be changed to say that only v10 can co-exist with v11 on the same computer.

I did as Alex suggested, sort of:

-backed up the library and .jmd files to a different directory
-uninstalled MC11
-deleted all J River folders in "C" drive directory and C:\program files, (I did not clean the registry or Documents & Settings).
-re-installed MC 9
-uninstalled MC 9
-installed MC 11
and voila, MC 11 works like a charm!(and I have to say, I'm impressed!). The other problems i mentioned in another post have also been resolved.

I didn't do the in-depth cleaning as I didn't want to have to restore MC 9 (I had just lost my internet connection, which was only restored an hour ago).

Excuse me, now, while I go play with this new library browser thing (pretty cool stuff). :)

why would you need more than one install of MC?

As I explaned above (I hope) the original installation of v11 on top of v9 was faulty and evidently didn't completely remove v9 and caused some abberations in the v11 install.

I just figured it would be best to do a re-install of v9 and make sure it was working properly and then do a proper uninstall, before attempting to install v11 again. It seems to have worked as MC11 is working great so far.
