MC still breaks auto-hide
« on: July 30, 2005, 05:37:13 am »

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=2361 (several others have complained of similar since this thread).

Close to three years and MC still 'breaks' auto-hide of taskbar and docked toolbar.  Same problem on four different PCs with different graphics cards, monitors, Windows versions.  Only MC, out of dozens of programs, causes this.

Any chance of an attempt at fixing this?  Happy to provide more detail, screenshots, etc.

I don't have a problem with it since it works fine on this and 3 others, all have dif graphics carts.

I have seen the problem before but now I also have the screen res set to the highest size setting.

Not sure but that may help

I am thinkinking it was a windows problem.

I'm running native res for this LCD monitor - 1280x1024 - even if changing it fixed the problem, it's not an option (display quality, legibility, real estate, etc.).

Do you have docked toolbar as well as taskbar?  Both auto-hide?  Like so:

Well The Like So Image states "Do Not Steal Images from www.1cog.com"

But i have a docked taskbar, and the quick launch tool bar is docked on the taskbar, yes

Sorry about the "steal images" thing - I forgot about hotlinking prevention.  Image now fixed.

As you can see, I'm not referring to quicklaunch - I dock a toolbar to left-hand side of screen and set it to auto-hide, same as taskbar.

Aside: if anyone doesn't know how to create docked toolbar:
1. create folder somewhere (My Documents, perhaps), call it 'toolbar'
2. create shortcut to 'toolbar' on desktop (right click folder and select 'Send To ... Desktop (create shortcut)')
3. drag 'toolbar' shortcut and hold against edge of screen
4. you can now drag and drop shortcuts on to docked toolbar or in to 'toolbar' folder in My Documents
5. right click toolbar to set auto-hide, always on top, etc.

Oh i see, no I do not use windows in that manner

I just tested it and it worked fine

When maximized It did not allow the new docked menu to work, but when i "clicked always ontop" for the new audo hide menue it worked fine.

I'm sensitive to that but have not TMK seen it at all. Win XP SP1, MC 11.

I have

a) '[] Auto-hide the taskbar' checked
b) MC with focus
c)  mouse cursor over the task bar

Are you saying that is sufficient condition?

Here the result is: taks bar shows. Are you saying there there result is "does not show"?

and it appears. Are you saying that's

Yes.  I restore MC from system tray, start a new album, minimize and now taskbar + toolbar will not come out of auto-hide until I minimize all apps.  Additionally, I need to click on empty space somewhere on taskbar and toolbar to make them work when another app is maximized.  I repeat this 'game' multiple times a day, only for MC, although not *every* time.

KingSparta - this is a sporadic problem.  It might hit ten times in a row and then work ten times in a row.  In all this time I've not seen any pattern.

If you're keen to test, duplicate my set-up (double height taskbar, etc.), live with it a few days and then let us know result.  :)

OK..

> I restore MC from system tray, start a new album, minimize and now

...but are you then saying those additional actions are requirements for the fault to show?

I can't speak for David_1cog, but here's how I reproduce this...

Configuration:
Toolbar or taskbar docked to either left or right of screen
MC set to Minimize to tray

Open MC
Minimize (sometimes this will cause it, though not always)
Restore
Minimize (This always causes it)

I actually have the taskbar docked to the right side of the screen, and hitting the windows key usually solves the problem.

Thanks, iphoenix, that pretty much covers it, although it never *always* happens for me.  Also, hitting Windows key only forces the taskbar to appear, not the docked toolbar - I need to return to desktop to make it appear (and then click on the toolbar to keep it working).

BUMP.  Even the courtesy of "we're not interested in fixing it" would be appreciated.

If this is a bug, it is an obscure one and won't be fixed in 11.0.

When we start posting 11.1 builds in a month or two, please post a link to this thread in the release thread and we'll try to take a look.  No promise though.

I see this also, and I don't have bars left or right of the start bar.
Like the others it's a 1 in 5 as to whether it's going to work or not.
I find that pressing the windows key quickly gets the taskbar back.
Would be nice to see it fixed, if it's a MC problem not a Vindows one.
