MC 11.1.123 errors tagging files

Whenever I rip a CD now, I get an error message on *almost* every track:

"Media Center encountered errors while tagging and moving files. Check that the files exist, are not read-only, and are not in use by other programs."

It's only been doing that recently.

The tags seem to be fine though in actual fact.

I am running several different media servers (Twonky, TVersity, Windows Media Connect) - do you think it's possible that on of them is pouncing on the newly ripped files as soon as it sees them?

Is it realistically like to be a problem? Other than being incredibly irritating when Media Center brings itself to the front whenever I'm doing something on the PC at the same time...!

I presume no-one else is getting this?

Try turning off or uninstalling anything you can.

Try ripping to WAV or to another format.

Actually, turning off Windows Media Connect fixed it.

I'm not surprised.

Though it seems ridiculous, to be quite honest, that it somehow manages to lock the files - it's only supposed to be indexing them, not opening them in some kind of read-deny mode!

How do you check the status of and/or turn off "Windows Media Connect"?

It appears to be something that you have to specifically install.  Since I don't see any reference to "Windows Media Connect" on my "Add/Remove Programs" page, I guess I can assume that it is not installed on my system.

That said, just in case I DO run into at some point, where does it show up?  I'd still like to know where you find the option to turn it off if the need arises at some point.

It's basically a UPnP server. I have several UPnP devices, and I can't actually remember now why I was using the other servers in addition to MC's. They all have slightly different functionality, and in theory it doesn't hurt to have more than one running.

However, you need Windows Media Connect if you want to serve media to an XBox 360.

I found it annoying anyway - it's just not configurable enough, and it caused such a massive performance hit on my PC every time I rebooted it because it would take literally hours scanning my media every time.

When it's running, you get an icon in the system tray, but exiting that doesn't actually stop it running.

The only way to stop it running properly is to go into the Services   control panel and stop the service in there. Or uninstall it of course.

And yes, you're right, it's not installed by default, you have to choose to install it.
