i play other songs from my laptop in media server mode. i.e.: i press play on bossa tres jazz then without even finishing the first minute of the first track i play something else and again. happens on the second or third. how do i fix this ? i did a fresh install of xp pro and no dice..

Reinstall your license.

Remove any third party plug-ins.  Audioscrobbler does something similar.  Others may also cause problems.

i don't use audioscrobbler (nor any 3rd party plug-ins.. just plain vanilla mc11.1.165).. i don't even know what audioscrobbler is ). btw. i think it only crashes when media center (library server ?) is open and doesn't when it's just media server. i hope i'm making sense .

Did you try carefully reading the thread I mentioned above? 

Is the connection wireless?

yes i did read it and even tried checking my for stability and it's perfectly stable. apparently it only crashes with media server (just a while ago it crashed when i played another album and there was nothing playing so it's not just when rapidly switching tracks). and no the connection isn't wireless. it's through a laptop which is connected thru a router. i'm sure it isn't media center that has the problem cause i could rapidly play tracks through the library server without crashing. only happens with media server).

Now I'm not sure what you're doing.  Please tell us what you're running on the server.  Media Server is just a shell that lets you run Library Server and other server plug-ins after closing MC.

Do you have the same build of MC on both PC's?

i'm not running anything on the server except media player/server, (just today) bitcomet, and ym.

i don't have mc installed on my laptop (the client). just running media server on the host pc thru it's web based interface.

umm.. i just tried 11.0.316. it's not crashing (although i really need the latest mpc plugin that comes with the later versions of 11.1). it crashes though with mc 11.1 playing musepack files..

found a problem with mc 11.0.316.. if i play songs within an album it plays the first second, then repeats..

Please start another thread for new problems, it's very hard to keep track of the details pertaining to a single problem without mixing additional problems in.

About Media Center/Library Server/Media Server.

You said you are not running Media Center on the client. How are you sharing then? Media Center ONLY shares with another Media Center?

I think he's confusing Media Server with Remote Server.

Basically using the laptop as a remote control for MC.

I think you're using Remote Server already.

You fire up your laptop, then connect to your server PC through a web browser, and you see hypertext links that you click on and things play on the server PC. Correct?

If so, that's Remote Server.

Media Server is just a component that allows you to have Remote Server running without having to have MC open in its entirety.

Are you running any other servers on the same port?  That could cause problems.

Not sure if this helps figure this one out for you guys, but I'm seeing the same thing.

In my case, what I'm doing is this.

I have two PCs. One in my computer room. One in the living room that's hooked up to the surround sound. The PC in the computer room is the one with tons of drive space so it's the one storing my library.

All of my CDs are ripped to APE + CUE. I'm using APL files in the library.
My library is being served up through Library Server to my client PC. MC is finding its own port and picking 81. The client PC is configured to request files converted to MP3.
My client PC is running Remote Server on port 80. There are no conflicts.
If I sit at the server and connect to the client's Remote Server, I can change songs if I want. Inevitably, at some point when I click, IE will wait and wait and wait and eventually give me a page not found message. MC on the client has crashed.

I haven't done much extensive testing to see if this is due to clicking on things too quickly or just if it's something to do with my particular setup.
