JRiver WebUI 0.1
« on: January 28, 2007, 12:13:05 pm »

My friend and I put together this web user interface for Media Center 12 (may work with earlier versions).

J River WebUI is a more user friendly interface for controlling Media Center via the remote server. It gives easy access to controls, playing now, and media library all in one window.

The current version is 0.2. It can be downloaded from the Other Accessories plugins portion of this site, or from here:
http://shiftingpixel.com/downloads/JRiverWebUI0.2.zip
http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/807.zip

If you have any questions, you can contact us at jriver at shiftingpixel dot com, or post here.

That's right.  This is to control Media Center on one computer via another.  If you have questions on how to set that up, let me know.

In Media Center, go to Tools>Options>Startup
Under Startup Actions, check the box next to "Run Remote Server on port: 80"
You may change the port by clicking on it.
to find your computer's IP address, click Start>Run in windows
type cmd and click OK
type ipconfig and hit enter
Within index.html and control html, enter the server & port info as shown in the example in the readme file.

Let me know if you still have questions.

Yeah, there is a posting elsewhere about this. It's created by MahlerFreak so you could search for that. He's just posted today making the beta a bit more open with the current release, so if you email him - via this site I guess - he'll send you the latest version.

The first web client I've been building is essentially a "Desktop Equivalent" type of AJAX app, since I figured that would uncover 90% of the requirements for an HTTP server - which indeed, it has. But I do intend on building tablet-friendly and PDA-friendly clients as well, and I'll thoroughly document the server protocols so others can build on it as well.

The server I built is significantly more capable than the standard remote server for building AJAX/DHTML-style apps, and also provides access to a broader range of MC functionality, such as being able to retrieve all library fields. It also provides its own searching/sorting facilities, eliminating a significant amount of COM overhead on large libraries.

And BTW, sorry to Robbie G for hijacking your thread!

Just tried out your web client, very simple and very nice.

Hi Jan,

Sorry, I don't know much about using zones within Media Center.  From what I can tell, it is not possible to change zones via a remote server.

Stay tuned for an update to the WebUI!

Version 0.2 has been uploaded and is now available (see the first post on this page).  The following has been changed:
-Added image buttons for playback controls
-Added Volume, Shuffle, and Repeat controls
-Switched sides of the playback controls and library controls

Let me know what you think of it.  Enjoy!

Hi Robbie,

your plugin is awesome! You did a realy great job, but still I have a problem. I would like to control my zone's remotely. When this will work fine I will be very happy. Because now I can't change my music in the living room when i'm sitting in the kitchen for example. I can only change the active zone.  :(

Regards,

Wouter.

If you could change zones it would be perfect.

Is it possible to do that using the web interface?

Robbie,

For some reason, my searches for your thread didn't pan out, so I opened this other thread which apparently is targeted to you.
