Shift-Delete dialog needs a cancel button
« on: March 05, 2007, 12:42:16 pm »

You may burst out in laughter, all files were recovered from the recycle bin, no harm done 8).

All I wanted was to delete a single album, I ended up deleting nearly the entire library with 'shift' pressed.

What would be good is if the 'please wait' dialog that shows had a cancel button. I ended up killing the task using Task manager but that should not be necessary.

Fortunately it had only deleted like 80gb by the time my nervous hands found the proper key combination to the task manager and hit KILL TASK ::)

But still a cancel button would have been nice  :-*

I'd rather watch your horrific reaction as all your files were being deleted.  Remember the recylcle bin usually is configured to only allow 15% of your drive's capacity so if it went over that limit wouldn't files start actually being erased?

I'm sure you have flawless backups, though, so no worries in this area.

There sort of already IS a confirmation dialog... The "which way do you want to delete it" question.  However, I agree... ALL of the "Please Wait" dialogs in MC should have a cancel button.

There's already an extra confirmation layer in there for delete and recycle bin operations.  You may have ticked "never ask me again".

You can reset all confirmations by erasing this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12\Properties\Confirm

The problem with computers is that they do exactly what you tell them to do.

Cool Thanks. I guess I did because these extra confirmations annoy me.

Yup. For once Bill is not the one to blame. I think a part of my upper body must have hit End or PageDown on its way down toward the Enter key before the part of my lower body got off the Shift key. Hey, I never asked for keyboards to be made so darn small!

*Sigh* what happened to the times you had to actually press a key down for 1,5 inches before it actually did something?  :-\

A lot of programs I use offer an option to reset the confirmations if you want to turn them back on rather than edit the registry. Seems like a lot of solutions lately are to edit the registry which we all know is dangerous, especially for novices.
