This is really hard to use, because I have no idea what channel the scan assigned to channel x.
My cable has at most 50 channels, but the scan came up with 100s.
The channel info "Cable x" is a joke.  The channel ID from TTX would be nice.
There must be a better way.  I would even be willing to create all of the channel entries manually, if I could only edit the frequency.

Are you using XMLTV?

Yes, with mc2xml.

Perhaps you picked a wrong option during scanning?  There are multiple channel line-up options from the same cable company.

You will have to make channel ID assignment only once.  In subsequent scans you will not need to have to choose (but you can still change, in case you picked some channels wrong in the first time).

Sorry, no chance.  There is only one analog cable lineup available for my provider, Wasserwerk Zug (WWZ), also known as DataZug, in Switzerland.
BTW, I'm not sure how the XMLTV business is relevant, since there is already a problem setting up the receiver channels, before EPG even comes into play.

My cable has at most 50 channels, but the scan came up with 100s.

I assumed what you meant by this was MC only picked up 50 channels during channel scan, but mc2xml gave you programs for 100 channels during program scan.  This may be the case if your cable company has 100 channels but you either only subscribed for 50 channels, or MC can only pick up 50 channels because the other 50 channels are scrambled, requiring a cable box to tune to.  Program scan will give you programs for all 100 channels.  You will have to make an channel ID assignment.

Here are a couple of examples of what I get:

40 HISTORY (I40.28457181.microsoft.com)  ----- for my cable channel 40
52 TNT (I52.28456676.microsoft.com) --------- for my cable channel 52

Sorry Jim,
I guess my description wasn't good enough.  The cable provider only provides about 50 analog channels, none scrambled.
The scan returned a couple of hundred.  Since the scan provides only a channel # and no freq. or other identifying info, it is a real PITA to try to correctly associate these channels with the EPG channels (which correspond to the less than 50 available).
This being so, I would prefer to assign all channels (number and freq.) manually, instead of scanning.
Thanks for your support.
Regards,
Roger

Analog channels are identified by "channel number".  You do not need frequency.  EPG data should have identifiable channel number in them, as my examples show.

Analog channels are identified by "channel number".
Not in Switzerland.  Channel numbers provided by the cable company correspond to the freq. and not to the channel number used to select the broadcast.  They have numbers like K12, S22, etc.
BTW, there is *one* scrambled channel.  I had forgotten about that.
