Hi all,

MC has a Library Server, I know that. But is that enough to watch videos on my TV? Yesterday I bought a t.v. with a built-in WiFi, so basically the question is: what do I have to do to get videos from my p.c. with MC to my TV?

MC14 will allow you to watch recorded TV from the server. I'm not sure about MC13.

Thanks for your reply, Jim, but I think I didn't explain myself too well.
I want to use MC the same way as TVersity: that's a media-library too and my TV receives that library so I can view/listen videos, music and photos.
I'm almost sure that MC can do that too, but its Library Server signal isn't recognized by my TV's WiFi.

Take a look at the wiki here on "Servers" if you're not familiar with Library Server capabilities.

If you are, please describe exactly what you want to do.

The TV with "built in Wifi" is probably DLNA compatible. If so, you may be able to connect if you run MC's UPnP Server. DLNA is a superset of UPnP. Our server has a DLNA setting.

Maybe you meant that you want to use your TV set as a monitor and watch videos on it? Yes you can do that. Theater View is designed for that.

I got my TV (a Philips 40PFL9704) to receive the MC signal. However, when I want to view its content the TV says it can't read its files.
Can it be that MC isn't compatible with this TV or do I talk nonsense saying that? I say this because MC isn't mentioned in the list of supported mediasoftware.
This is the list of supported software as mentioned in the TV-manual:
Windows Media Player 11
Google (for XP)
Twonky Media - Packetvideo 4.4.9
Sony Vaio mediaserver
TVersity
Nero 8 - Nero MediaHome

Is the TV DLNA compatible? MC has a DLNA mode in the UPnP server. It may not be in MC13, and it is definitely improved in MC14.

Have you tried running the UPnP server in MC14? It has some options you can try. It also logs activity.

I installed MC 14 but to no avail.
I start the UPnP server and then my TV again detected the signal. But when I choose the server the TV says (translated from Dutch): No readable files.
So I thought: maybe I should first start the Library Server and then the UPnP server. But that did neither do the trick.

Get the latest build from the top of this board. It's 14.0.94.

Don't run Library Server.

Run UPnP Server. Try the Options for it. Choose DLNA first, then try Advanced, where you can toggle some switches.

As Jim said, don't autodetect, it won't detect all DLNA devices. Choose "DLNA (Philips 2500, etc)" first, that should work for at least audio. It will be interesting to see what video (if any) will work. I'd guess wmv might work and maybe some of the mp4/divx formats. Images should work too. Let us know...

Oh, I'm quite happy over here! It does work!
I chose "DLNA (Philips 2500, etc)" and then my TV saw the server and listed the next 4 items: Audio, Images, Video and Playlists. Scrolling through them is a bit slow, but that might be caused by my WiFi network - I'll get it cabled one of these days.
Everything can be played on the TV: audio, jpg's and video's, although just the mpg's and mpeg's, but that's caused by the TV - it doesn't support other formats.

Interesting is that MC 13 does work too when I choose "DLNA (Philips 2500, etc)". The difference is though that the TV doesn't show the above mentioned 4 items, but just the audio stuff.

As I don't like the user interface on my TV I have one question left: can I use a Theater View of MC on my TV too? If yes: how?

That's really interesting Mark!
One of the things added in the DLNA support in MC14.0.94 was for images/videos. That's why they don't show up in 13.
We are currently pondering how to handle the views.

Does the TV play mpegs with mpeg2/ac3 AND mpegs with mpeg2/mpeg2? It'd be interesting to know just what it supports. Perhaps in the Documentation?

Good news!

The interface you see on the TV is controlled by the TV's software, not by MC.

To get a Theater View interface on it, you'd need to use a PC directly connected to the TV. Take a look at the "Television" topic on our wiki, or search here for "Synapse" to read more.

It appears that the TV can not play MPEG layer 3 videos. Any other mpeg does work.
The manual says that the TV should play avi too, but I haven't been able to do that so far...

It's probably a particular kind of avi. I'd guess mpeg4 or h264 video and ac3 or aac audio? Probably not mp3 audio since you seem to have shown that doesn't work already.

I was assuming you meant video's with a mpeg 1 layer 3 audio track (i.e. mp3). I figured that if you had an avi with a mp3 audio track that it probably wouldn't play.
