Structural Changes in MC Build 90 and Above
« on: December 03, 2012, 10:54:40 am »

[EDIT by JimH -- Build 94 or newer is now available at the top of this board.]

Sometime this week, we will release a new build (86 or greater) that has some radical changes.  It removes the last of MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes), the building blocks of most Windows programs.   More discussion

This is good, since other operating systems don't support MFC.

But it's not all good.  There are two reasons.

1.  We've already found and fixed some, but there may be some new problems that we don't know about yet.

2.  There are several areas that we have left out for now.  These are line in recording, Menalto, and mini skins.  We know these may be important to you and we're sorry if it's inconvenient.  These _should_ return, but if they are critical to you, don't update to the new build for now.  Wait to see when they get fixed.

We're getting close to our goal of being able to provide JRiver Media Center on other platforms.  We appreciate your patience in this process.

Well, now we are talking.... on another post I just freaked out about the mini skins removal, but if I could get MC on Linux I really will go through the wait for skin manager and mini skins with gusto.  8)

Yeah, if there is even a marginal chance to have the MC server running on my Synology NAS one day... well, now we are talking...
Although, I hope it will be more stable as under Windows ;-)

When do you anticipate bringing vinyl recording capability back into MC?

Is there an earlier version I could use until then?   What bit/sampling frequency?

thanks

Ditto. I'm still waiting for the line-in recording before jumping to 18. Is it way on the bottom of the list or on the to-do on the soonish side?

Thanks Jim. I just had a thought. I can keep v17 on the same system, right? So I can just use that for my recordings and 18 for the rest?

That should work.

The most recent build of MC17 from the "Old Versions" topic on the wiki will work with an MC18 license.

Just to avoid having false hopes: is there really a chance that MC will be available for Linux, or even as a Synology package, one day?

Yes, since OSX is a lot like Linux.

But it won't happen for at least a year.

so does that mean it could come to IOS or Android as they are a bit like Linux.

Also how is the mini-skin fix coming?
