Extra M4A files [Pure Music problem]
« on: March 03, 2013, 04:27:25 am »

Many of my DSF files are showing as file type m4a and bitrate 176. The rest are showing correctly. The ones showing as m4a are definitely DSF!

Presumably this is a bug? And will the files play as DSF or as m4a?

An update to the above-

The files showing as m4a ARE m4a files (from their size), but I have no m4a files so JRMC18 has clearly converted these files!

Also, some (but not all) of these m4a files have been imported twice, once as DSF and once as m4a!

Can I clear the library so as to re-import please?

I can't see how MC could have converted any m4a files.

I have discovered what it is and will, I think, help others.

When I import DSF files, JRCM is also importing the Pure Music Bookmark attached to them, which includes a copy m4a file. For anyone also using
PM, it would be an awful drag to work round this.

I suppose there may be a way to easily delete all m4a files from the JRCM library, but some people might have m4a files they want to keep.

This might not be a "bug" as such, but I hope it's helpful.

This seems like a Pure Music problem.  Do you believe MC should do something other than what it is doing?

No, I guess not! But I'm not sure it's a Pure Music problem either. I think it's a problem for those who want to run both MC and Pure Music!

Is there a way I can delete all m4a files from my MC library please? Sorry to be a pain.

By the way, I think MC is sounding very good- keep up the great work.

You can sort the list by file type and highlight and delete all the m4a files.  Files you have explicitly deleted won't auto-import again unless you uncheck "ignore files previously removed from library".

I am also having the m4a problem. I have pure music installed also. When I first imported my flacs to JRiver it also imported duplicated m4a files from all the imported tracks. This happens also when I import single albums to jriver. But I have never used m4a files with pure music and I don't know what they are. I have only flacs and mp3's in pure music.

MC doesn't convert or duplicate your tracks unless you tell it to.

I have to check the import options. I haven't touched them so they are defaults.

Vermu

These m4a files are contained in the Pure Music bookmarks attached to each of your FLAC or DSD files when you used "Add FLAC or DSD Files"
in Pure Music. They are the files that "fool" iTunes into including them in the iTunes library.

I have deleted them as indicated by John above.

I suppose this is something that users of both MC and PM will have to do each time we add new FLAC or DSD files in PM.

A new JRiver user, pls tell me where I can find my list.

Just remove them from MC (the first choice).  The other two delete the files from disk.

You have to use the Edit menu for now, until the key accelerators are working.  Select one of the thing you want to set the focus, and then use Edit > Select All.
