Help with "files not found"?
« on: January 05, 2014, 07:01:44 am »

I have stupidly moved some music files without using MC19. Is there any way - a smartlist perhaps - that could identify them from within my MC library?

Or a way of asking MC to search for the correct location of the files?

Or any other way of getting my library back into its proper state where all the files that are listed in the library actually exist?

Thank you for any help with this issue.

The wiki has a topic on "Moving Files".

Thanks Jim. I' know how to move files from within MC but not how to find them once I'd stupidly moved them outside MC.

Is there any way - a smartlist perhaps - that could identify them from within my MC library?

Try creating a new smarlist and with the import button copy this in :

Code: [Select]
[Media Type]=[Audio] -[Filename (path)]=[Z:\Music\] change or remove media type if not audio files; and replace Z:\Music\ with your paths. You can build this yourself through the wizard also where filepath is not and fill in the box - doing this with multiple rules is you have more than one principal file path.

If by chance you no longer have the media in your library -- do a library restore first of course, but they should still be there.

That thread discusses tools.

If you create a smartlist and import:

Code: [Select]
[=ismissing()]=1
It should show you which files are missing from the library.

You can then use the "Rename, Move, & Copy Files" tool in "Update database to point to new location" mode to fix their locations.
