« on: September 10, 2014, 09:12:32 am »

This is the latest version of MC20.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

7. Fixed: Playing optical discs was broken in 20.0.13 in some situations.
Thanks for the quick fix.
As mentioned in the previous topic:

I don't seem to be getting any cover art displayed in Playing Now for SACD tracks - just a Media Center logo.
Works in Theater View, but not Standard View.

SACD cover art seems to be working here.

Crashes during import or conversion - takes you to a fatal error web page stating the installation is corrupt (not particularly useful imo). Was able to import/convert the same files successfully using v19.0.163.

Can you find a file that causes a crash and send it to us?   Thanks.

This doesn't seem to work.

When you remove an item from Playing Now, it skips to the next file, but when you delete an item from Playing Now, playback stops.

The only distinction I'm aware of, is remove from Playing Now ("Remove From List" with keyboard shortcut of Delete key) and delete from the Library.

Yes, which is why I made it clear in my post that it only skips to the next item in a playlist when you remove an item, and not when you delete one. (shift+del)

Language
« Reply #12 on: September 11, 2014, 09:36:55 pm »

Language keeps doing "damages".
I already posted a very similar image to this.

Another thing is the mess you can get with playlists changing language. For instance, renaming Car Audio for something else can empty the "something else", generates another Car Audio and lists may be there. Connections with the 12 index may be lost.
If I chose some of the Car Audio to play, MC gives me the info playlist is "none".
Changing language gives me Recent Playlists.

Reverting language usually leaves playlists in the previous choice.

I think I'm not being very clear but it's difficult to explain.

Please add the feature that would allow us to control what shows in Gizmo for different views.  We can control categorization intimately, but once you get down to the individual files, you just have to allow it to name things automatically with the name tag.

A lot of music videos won't play in HTML5 on the YouTube site because they require ads to be played.
This also prevents them from being loaded in Media Center.

Sounds like the issue Matt had mentioned previously where he wasn't sure whether Zone Startup Volume or Volume Protection took precedence.

I am missing an "auto stop" feature on MC-19, something I had on my Studer A730. Is it planned on MC-20?
Media Center is set to "Repeat Playing Now" by default.
Set Player → Repeat → Repeat Off to have it stop at the end of the current playlist.

You may also find Player → Stop After Current File useful.

Detach display image scaling when set to 100% is broken. It's stretching all images regardless - verified this with 600x600 and 1000x1000 images. My detach display window size is set to 1015x1050.

It's working here.  It shows the image at 100%.  If the display is slaved to the Action Window it'll scale regardless (since a big cover art there doesn't make sense).

Hi,
I have since I started to use MC set CD Ripping Read speed to 2X. Lately, however, I have noticed a significant higher ripping speed. I don't know if the speed indicator, which is displayed in the Action Window during the ripping, shows Read speed but it is fluctuating up to around 20X, sometimes higher. But maybe that is completely normal? Anyway, I have a feeling that ripping a CD nowadays in general takes much less time.

Only some drives respond to the speed command.  There's no reason to use less than full speed though.  Use secure ripping for safe measure.

FWIW, I frequently rip CDs, and I noticed a really drastic increase in ripping speed starting about a month ago; like three or four times faster than it used to be (both in terms of the displayed speed and the actual clock time it takes to finish).  At first I was concerned because I'd only ever seen speeds like that without secure rip enabled, so I thought maybe secure rip wasn't engaging.  But MC indicates that secure rip is on, so everything is just faster now?  I've never used speed limiting, so that's not at issue in my setup.

Probably not a bug, but it does seem sort of anomalous that ripping would suddenly and consistently speed up unless there were process improvements that I missed in the build notes?  Definitely not complaining though  8)

In theater view, when I click on the description text for a movie or TV show episode, instead of extending the text box to enable reading the whole description, I'm taken to a new screen where the description text is displayed as a single line extending offcreen in the top title bar.  Does not do this in 19.

Thats great news! I noticed the startup volume defaults to -1 - would the volume protection take precedence in that case?

FWIW, I frequently rip CDs, and I noticed a really drastic increase in ripping speed starting about a month ago; like three or four times faster than it used to be (both in terms of the displayed speed and the actual clock time it takes to finish).  At first I was concerned because I'd only ever seen speeds like that without secure rip enabled, so I thought maybe secure rip wasn't engaging.  But MC indicates that secure rip is on, so everything is just faster now?  I've never used speed limiting, so that's not at issue in my setup.

Are we sure that Secure rip mode really is enabled or has a bug sneaked in...? That something has changed with the ripping feature is clear.

Only some drives respond to the speed command.  There's no reason to use less than full speed though.  Use secure ripping for safe measure.

I just ripped two almost unplayable tracks (scratched CD) from Marvin Gaye's 'Anthology' and the ripping process passed with no indication that the tracks were bad. The SecureRip log contained only Secure rips which obvious not is the case. Something is not working correctly with the secure ripping process.

Posting here because this never happened before.

Last night while watching a movie MC stopped receiving commands. Neither my Harmony Ultimate or keyboard could stop, play, pause, right-click, etc. I had to force quit MC and restart it. Then it worked normally.

I am betting that MC threw an error and popped up a modal error dialog behind the now playing screen. In that case you would not be able to see the error, and you would not be able to hit the button to dismiss the dialog, and so the dialog would just sit there preventing MC from executing any other commands. If it happens again try to hit Enter or Esc since that might dismiss the hidden modal dialog.

PS comment to JRiver: as you know you have to jump through complex coding hoops and tricks to ensure that the now playing screen and TheaterView screens are always on top. Sometimes it works too well and low level modal dialogs can get stuck behind. I think it applies particularly to modal dialogs caused by errors outside of MC's direct code envelope - such as driver issues. You could perhaps consider having a watchdog thread checking if MC's UI thread is blocked on a modal dialog, and if so popping that dialog to the front...

A new misbehaviour has appeared when managing handheld devices.  Just in case it's relevant, I'm using a Sony Walkman MP3 player. The wierdness occurs when using MC20 to do housekeeping on the handheld - that is, deleting media files to make room for new audio playlists and media files. After deleting the least needed media files, I also manually identify and delete those playlists stored on the handheld which have become empty because of  the deleted content.  When I remove a(n empty) playlist from the handheld using MC20, the entire displayed list of playlists vanishes from the "Drives and Devices" section of MC20's side window. The device name remains there, alone with nothing below it. To restore /redraw the list of playlists currently saved on the handheld, I have to close (unexpand?) the "Drives and Devices" section then expand it again.

It seems that deleting one of the handheld's playlist files removes the whole list of playlists from the display.  This did not happen in MC19.
I hope my terminology is sufficiently clear to accurately describe this little annoyance.  Generally, thanks for a very nice piece of work.

Esc or any other commands from the keyboard did not work. I think my "exit" key on the remote is programmed for "alt+f4" and that got me out of theater view. Then I was able to kill MC with a "ctrl+alt+delete" because it still wasn't acting right.

Next time try Alt+F4 to get out of TheaterView followed by Alt+Tab to see if MC has any modal dialogs hidden behind it.
