NEWS: New JRiver Devices & JRemote for Android
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:40:44 am »

This newsletter will be sent tomorrow.  It has a couple of very exciting announcements.

Robert Ryan, author of JRemote, has ported it to Android.  We now own the domain JRemote.com and will switch to it.

Please point out any mistakes or typos you see below.

Thanks,

Jim

[Edit March 22, 2015 -- JRemote is not available for testing ]
--------

Play and Save
We're pretty excited to announce that JRiver has introduced a new line of low power devices, based on the JRiver Id.  They make it easy to move media around your home, and they do it on less than $10 of electricity a year, even running 24x7.  Starting at $89.

Audio
JRiver Media Center 20 (MC20) now has an Audio only view.  Select it from the View Menu to hide other features.

The new WDM driver allows MC to capture browser audio and route it through MC's audio engine.  This allows you to control volume and apply DSP effects to web services.

DSP over DLNA and other New Features

Video
Video is now available on both the Mac and Linux versions.

Remotes
JRemote on Android will be released in a few days.  It's been a big favorite on iOS for a long time.
Gizmo added HTTP Live Streaming
Other Remotes

Linux
Video on Linux is now available.  Linux on ARM is in testing now, and working on the Raspberry Pi.

Upgrades and Updates
* If you own Media Center 20.0, it is free to update to the latest version by downloading and installing.  This can be done automatically by selecting an update channel under Help.
* If you own MC20 on Windows and would like to purchase a Mac or Linux version, you can upgrade to a Master License that works on all three OS's for $24.98.
* If you own an earlier version of MC on any OS,  it's just $26.98 to upgrade for that OS.  MC can use your data and settings.  New Features

Warm regards,

JRiver

At the very end of the upgrade price sentence, what new features? Was in a sentence by itself or is it part of "MC can use your data and settings" along with new features.

It was a missing links.  There are several others like that.

Thanks.

The last bullet point under upgrades probably needs a little clarification.
At the moment, it reads as though upgrading from an earlier version for $26.98 will give a Master Licence.

Revised bullet points:
* If you already own Media Center 20.0, it is free to update to the latest version by downloading and installing.  This can be done automatically by selecting an update channel under Help.
* If you own an earlier version of MC on Windows or Mac,  it's just $26.98 to upgrade, and  MC will keep your data and settings.  New Features
* Finally, if you own MC20 on one just the one platform and would like to purchase a Mac or Linux version, you can upgrade to a Master License that works on version 20 for all three OS's for $24.98.

Grammar/ phrasing may need twiddling a little, but I think you should get my drift.

JRemote for Android is very good news. As an App developer, I can safely say JRemote for iOS is without a doubt the best app available in the entire app store. IMHO.

Congrats you guys! I can't wait to try JRemote for the first time (as I don't own an Apple iOS device).

Great news.

The ability to sync zones, the new devices and the JRemote for Android were the pieces missing to get this to the next level.  I saw elsewhere on the web that there is also a raspberry pi B kit that has a 20 watts stereo power amp included.

Would it be feasible to install your pi os on that, since you dont have that kit to sell.

BEst regards and keep up the work.

Can't wait to finally see what all the Apple geeks have been raving about on JRemote... Hoping it changes the JRiver experience...

Define a "few days"? :-)

More than 1, less than a million.

It will probably be in the next public build.

Jim,

Would it be possible to list the JRemote App on the Amazon App Store as well?
Blackberry OS 10 users can run Android apps but do/may not have access to the Google App store.

The Amazon App store is an alternative for us Blackberry 10 users.

Regards.

When the android app is released, if I sideload it to my Amazon Fire TV, will it work with a remote control?  Otherwise I will need to use my keyboard with touchpad.  But... either way, this will be fantastic to have on the Amazon Fire TV.

I tried switching away from JRiver + JRemote and over to Plex.  The thought was I could use Plex on my computer, iPhone and Fire TV.

But...  the Plex iPhone app isn't anywhere near as robust as JRemote.

For example, if I'm driving and stop the car and start it again, I have to press all these buttons to start playing where I left off.  And I have to start from the beginning of the song too.  JRemote just continues on where I left off without me having to touch anything!

+1, that's me as well. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad. But throwing work related files around is just such a drag.
