Host List Shortcut Profile
« on: April 15, 2004, 10:26:31 am »

Telnet Pro 5.1.19

PC: Windows XP SPK1
Host: AIX 4.3.2 RS6000 IBM

I have noticed this before and always been able to resolve it by going into the Profile > Startup and re-enter my password and so allow automatic login.

Once the Profile is set up I create an entry in the Host List and place a shortcut on the desktop. While all seem to lose their passwords from time to time I will illustrate one.

I will go into that particular profile and enter the password - hit "OK" and exit to get back to the session. Then re-enter immediately to see if it has held the password - it hasn't and has in fact replaced it with another.

I have deleted the particular profile and deleted the shortcut. Then I have re-created the same profile under another name and set up the shortcut (again different name) - no improvement.

When I doubleclick the shortcut it opens Telnet Pro, sends my username, moves down to the password option and then telnet pro vanishes.

I have set up the profile just with the username - no password and executed telnet pro. It enters my username and then I enter my password - takes me in no problem.

Checking the registry shows some of my profiles have encrypted passwords and some have none. However each one was given a password. When I re-check the profiles I can see by the "**"s that my password is not correct.

Thank you,

Thanks for the detailed information.

In older versions the passwords were not encrypted in the registery. Recent versions encrypt all of the passwords and convert the older unencrypted ones to encrpyted.

It's possible you are running into a glitch here. I'm passing your message along to the developer who is responsible for this part of the code.
